Top 10 Legion of Super Hero Members (Pre Bendis)

As there are so many Legion members I'd be interested to see people's top 10 listed in order.

(I found this extremely hard to do, not just ordering them from 1 to 10, but having to ho and hum as to who I was going to leave off)

This is a pre Bendis list. Not to hate on him, but his Legion is such a radical departure from the previous incarnations that in many ways they seem like different characters.

2. Ultra Boy - all the power of Superboy, but he's got to work for a living, which is kinda neat

4. Tellus - the first truly alien Legionnaire, much appreciated
5. Timber Wolf - my favorite combat type, sleek and dynamic and agile, like Spider-Man or Nightcrawler
6. Kid Quantum 2 - the best the Reboot had to offer, IMO
7. Duplicate Damsel - Tinya and Lu, the 4th and 5th Legionnaires are way underappreciated, and duplication is one of my favorite powers
8. Karate Kid - a badass so exceptional he merits an exception to the 'powers' rule
9. Dream Girl - sass and style, a fun personality
10. Brainiac 5 - being *smart* was a super-power? This science-nerd totally ate that up.

honorable mention The sequel Sensor Girl (never was a projecta fan but loved the mystery and mask of Sensor Girl) and Ferro Lad love his legacy but he was dead for most of my time loving the Legion.

Just to mention I always wanted to like Catspaw and Dragonmage they just didn't have enough adventures to merit inclusion but I liked their looks

I'm really interested in reading more about Dream Girl. I've only read a few things like the Great Darkness Saga but she was a definite highlight to me. Just seems like a fascinating character. Surprised to see her described as "sassy". Could someone recommend some singular issues from different eras?

[Factor]

1. Dreamer: I have a soft spot for her time as Legion leader. She's incredibly fun to read about.
2. Brainiac V: I really can't picture the Legion without Brainy.
3. Dawnstar: she's just really cool
4. White Witch: I love how she's this powerful magic character amidst such a sci-fi heavy setting.
5. Chameleon Boy: his relationship with Brande make him essential to the team
6. Invisible Kid II: he was a great POV for my first Legion issues.
7. Light Lass: especially because of her relationship with Vi. The Legion should be portraying many more non-heteronormative relationships.
8. Polar Boy: the reject that truly graduated.
9. Saturn Girl: My favorite out of the founders. She's just a solid hero others can rely on, even if I do think the original 3 can be a bit boring sometimes.
10. Tellus: surpringly relatable and one of the few members who actually look alien.

It was quite a challenge to pick just 10, because the Legion is full of great characters. I tend to gravitate towards some of the less popular ones, because they usually bring a lot more diversity and storytelling opportunities.

Disclaimer: I haven't read the Zero Hour reboot yet, so this is mostly based on the Levitz run + start of 5YL run + Johns' Action Comics + Legion of 3 Worlds and the LOSH ongoings that followed it (Pre and Post- Flashpoint).

One of the reasons I *love* the Legion is one of those groups in which just about *every* character is on somebody's favorites list. Here's mine, at this moment:

1. Wildfire - As a child of the 70's I gravitated towards characters with identifiable "character." Green Arrow was one. 70's era Wildfire was another.
2. Blok - I'm a sucker for redeemed bad guys.
3. Tyroc - In hindsight, yeah, he was problematic as hell. But that costume rocked.
4. Quislet - The Legion needs more strange characters.
5. White Witch - I always appreciated that she wasn't just a finger-wiggling sorceress - she needed time to prep her spells.
6. Matter-Eater Lad - Once he became "the funny Legionnaire," he was gold.
7. Dawnstar - Have I mentioned that I'm a child of the 70's?
8. Polar Boy - The little reject that could.
9. Bouncing Boy - The beating heart of the Legion at one point.
10. Brainiac 5 - It's not every hero who can go insane, unleash Omega, and still be welcomed back to the team.

He was never the main draw (for me). It was all these other exciting characters I never got to see anywhere else.

Thinking back, I guess this was the earliest example I remember of me learning comics were a business, as I realized the only reason Superboy was in the book was so more ppl would buy it.

Except for Wonder Woman, my favorite comic book characters have never been any of the major icons. I love the Legion for the weird, bizarre, odd characters with "goofy" powers.

And this is (a good problem to have!) my big problem with picking ten 'favorite' Legionnaires is that I read everyone else's lists and regret not picking Sensor Girl or Lightning Lass or Night Girl or Mon-El, or wishing that characters like Tyroc and Dragonmage had gotten more development, because I totally *want* them to be favorites!
