Marvel's Midnight Suns Game Announced

I hope everybody isn't stuck with those black/yellow combo outfits. They need to have several alternate costumes.

Meh, doesn’t matter to me. But building friendships with your favorite characters sounds nice so I think I’ll get the game off of that alone.

Not a deal breaker. I never liked the way Bioware handled romances in their games. It always felt contrived. I prefer how the Witcher and Persona games do it.

Considering these are corporate characters with canon love interests, I wasn't expecting them to let an OC romance the Marvel Heroes.

You generally select predefined options that lead to a game character “liking you”, and sometimes they have censored sex with your avatar character.

Ok. I've never played a romance game like that.

It doesn't. The only tactical RPG with romance is probably Fire Emblem.

How does romance work in these games?

1. Develop a friendship with a character
2. Select options that will make your character of choice like you
3. Depending on the game you will need to give the character gifts and/or do a series of events or quests to develop the relationship
4. You will need to do a major sidequest relating to that character's arc so they can archive personal growth so your relationship can develop further.
5. When that character's affection is high enough the game will allow you to pull the trigger on a romance. Some games when the level is reach or waiting for certain point in the game (usually when it's nearing it's climax)

Once you get the girl or guy there isn't much after that. Maybe some brief acknowledgments that you are a couple but maintaining a relationship never becomes a thing.

It is an extra. Romances in these games happen outside of the main plot. Main story usually doesn't acknowledge it neither.

Yeah, those would be cool characters to see in Midnight Suns. I'd mention, however, that the "Spider-Man" in that first pic is actually his clone the Scarlet Spider, who was brought back from the dead in a torturous process that drove him insane and tainted his soul (word from Death herself) to the point of a rather skewed moral compass compared to the hero he used to be, hence his brief membership in the Midnight Sons.

It won't affect story progression. It can affect gameplay depending on the game. For example, in the Persona games the bond you built carries over into gameplay by having your lover shield you from damage, knock you out of a status effect, making it easier to build baton pass for team combos, etc.
