Loved this issue! What a great Perez cover!
Dark Phoenix “Saga” — which was kind of bubbling up by this point with Wyngarde and Jean but was not in full effect yet — was really the culmination of a years-long run by Claremont, and of course Byrne and Austin. There were plenty of amazing issues prior to it. Proteus was part of that build up, along with a Savage Land trip, the issues in Japan with Moses Magnum, Alpha Flight (#120 is particularly great!), and even Arcade. What a great ride!
BTW, Edinburgh is a pretty cool place, though definitely touristy. I’ve been at the top of that castle, and I imagine others on this board have as well. Byrne doesn’t quite do it justice, but good enough. I was pleased as punch as my wife was texting images of the castle to a group text of friends that I was able to proclaim its historic importance in X-Men history! My wife was perhaps less amused by that comment from me. I could almost hear her thinking, “Nerd!” LOL!
Best? Unforgettable? Favorite?
Ladies and gentlemen, I present for your consideration an apparent future ruler of humanity, maybe; a being of polite words and great gumption; an intelligence perhaps thinking too highly of itself in its hubris; a chipper dude, not without a temper; and surely the funniest pink robot EVAH — Nimrod the Lesser!
I’m posting this just to beat everyone else to it. Exhibit 1A for why Marvel shoulda left her dead, panels that will be remembered forever in great infamy...
Alas, asparagus people, we hardly knew ye...

Stepford Cuckoos are underrated. They deserve more love.
Hope Summers being a bad-a**.
I like the dynamic posing of this Jean Grey moment here.
