    Default Cleverest FORESHADOWING ?

    SPOILER WARNINGS

Black Widow : Nat watches James Bond Moonraker. It features a space station, a ruthless villain and a freaky henchman. Hmmm...

Midsommar : "Don't forget those Swedish girls we're gonna impregnate"

Black Mirror : San Junipero . Early on Yorkie is seen playing the old Bubble Bobble video game. A gamer explains to her that the game has multiple endings.
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9TgKuJxaWQU (2.11 mark)
In solo mode the game reminds you "this is not the true ending! Don't forget your friends! You will be impressed by the truth of this story!"
Dual player mode we learn : (4.05 mark) Happy End! Congratulations! You found the most important magic in the world. Its love and Friendship! "

It fits well with the plot of the episode. After Yorkie passes over her afterlife feels incomplete until Kelly joins her. SJ and Bubble Bobble may be computer generated worlds but the love and time Yorkie & Kelly have with each other is REAL. I wonder if the writer knew this?

    Other examples?

Early on in "Silence of the Lambs" we see some of Clarice training at the FBI and we see her fail to properly clear a room and her instructor is able to put a gun to the back of her head. It's shown as just a day in her life and they didn't make a big deal about it, but clearly was a hint at the film's climax.

Everything in Odd Taxi. There's nothing in that show is meaningless.

The bird-version of the “Transporting Man” from The Prestige, especially since it acts foreshadowing for *both* twists regarding how Borden and Angier do it, first with how the little child figures out who the “transported” bird *is*, and what grisly fate occurs to the the one in the cage.
Like action, adventure, rogues, and outlaws? Like anti-heroes, femme fatales, mysteries and thrillers?

I wrote a book with them. Outlaw’s Shadow: A Sherwood Noir. Robin Hood’s evil counterpart, Guy of Gisbourne, is the main character. Feel free to give it a look: https://read.amazon.com/kp/embed?asi...E2PKBNJFH76GQP

My wife and I laughed at how strongly Michael Caine delivered his "Then got off the stage!" line when Jackman said he didn't want to kill the bird. We later realized just how important that was later and why that was so strongly emphasized.

It’s amazing how creepy watching that film can be just when you see the hats in the beginning on your second watch-through…

How 'the Jackal' was foreshadowed early on in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels setting up the twist at the end.

Is it foreshadowing if you literally see what's going to happen but all that's lacking is a larger context? Sinclair being shown a vision of Babylon 5 exploding and a single shuttle escaping comes to mind. That happens but it's the station being intentionally scuttled and Sheridan is the last man off in that shuttle. And all of Babylon Squared leading into War Without End.

B5 did a lot of that. But they also did a TON of the type of foreshadowing the OP talks about. Season 3's "Dust to Dust", early in the Shadow War, when the final shot of Vorlon Ambassador Kosh is in front of a giant, glowing "Warning!" sign.

Or the S1 episode that introduces the alien execution/healing machine, where the backstory of the doctor guest character is foretelling Franklin's descent into addiction later in S2 and S3.

Or Vir's answer to Morden's classic "What do you want?" question in S2. Which is probably Vir's most beautiful scene in the entire show.

Hell, the entirety of S1's "Infection" is basically a microcosm for the rest of the series. An ancient alien threat is accidentally awakened, threatens to kill everyone and is ultimately convinced that it's wrong and talked down.

Not sure if it counts but in Back to the Future when Marty's trying to convince 1955 Doc he's from the future he shows him the photo of him with his siblings which Doc scoffs at as a poor photoshop saying the top of his brother's head is cut off. So the film already told you the countdown of Marty getting erased from existence began before they even explain that out in a scene shortly later.

An oldie I just rewatched, No Way Out. Will Patton tells Kevin Costner he'd die for Gene Hackman.

Some of the other jokes are set up earlier but also get payoff later in the movie. Some are more subtle, like:

Marty's concern about Doc getting Plutonium "You don't just go into a store and buy plutonium". Later, 1955 Doc assumes that Plutonium is available in every corner drug store in 1985 when Marty brings up that they need it.

Of course later has the handy Mr. Fusion attached to the Delorean which gets the atomic reaction by just converting some junk, and possibly was available in a 2015 store....

^^ Yeah, "Back to the Future" specifically set up parallel scenes throughout. I don't know if those would be called "foreshadowing" per se, but it's a recurring kind of joke in the series when they call back to something we saw in a different time or timeline.
