    7. (Untitled Gambit book) by Chris Claremont - This is either another volume of X-Men Legends or a Gambit miniseries, probably not under the Krakoan branding either
What? A Gambit book by Claremont?! Shouldn't that be a big deal? First time hearing of it....

Sounds cools. Perhaps they will announce this during comic con.

I’d believe that. He’s done gatefolds for HoX and Inferno.
    You brought back Wolverine

Just a rumour from Claremont Instagram so far that he finished Gambit 3 in time for deadline and is writing Gambit #4.

That would be cool. Would love a Madripoor cover with Psylocke and Jubilee. Maybe Cable too since their first meeting in the comics was there and they fought.

I don't associate Cable with Wolverine at all.

They had a big rivalry in the 90s, facing off at least four times that I can remember (in Madripoor first in a New Mutants issue, during X-Cutioner’s Song with Bishop also in the mix, during The Twelve event when Logan was Death, and during Claremont’s Revolution run). Wolverine also killed Cable’s son, Tyler, who was corrupted by Stryfe and fancied himself the heir to Apocalypse (going by Genesis). I have at least 3 different cards from 3 different Fleer Marvel sets depicting Cable vs. Wolverine as a “famous battle.”

Fun fact: Cable and Wolverine were the only characters with Level 7 Fighting Ability in several of these sets, which is a testament to their popularity at the time.

So, yeah, they’ve got quite a bit of history. Even Duggan paid homage to this when he had Kid Cable fight Logan in the arena on Krakoa in an early issue of the Kid Cable solo book. Straight facts.

I feel like Cable and Wolverine only had a "rivalrly" because Rob Liefeld made it one. He did the same with Deadpool too and with pretty much all his creations.

Also, I think I remember Sabretooth, Maverick, and Omega Red all having a level 7 in fighting ability in those card sets.

I believe they all had Level 6… EDIT: Actually, just looked it up. It appears that in the earlier card sets (‘92, ‘93) all three of those characters, plus Logan and Cable, had Level 7 fighting ability.

But they got downgraded in later card sets.

As for Liefeld making it a rivalry, you are correct, but it is one that endured throughout the decade. That’s my point. The poster I was responding to said they didn’t associate the two characters. I was just pointing out that they have as much association if not more than Logan has with a number of X-characters. Certainly Nightcrawler, Jean, Scott, Ororo, Kitty, Jubilee… to name a few, are much closer with him. But if this is a big gatefold Mark Brooks cover like the others have been, Cable would be there before X-characters like Iceman, Polaris, Sunfire, Synch, Bishop, etc., as they have plenty of history. They’ve even had team-ups and a limited series together. Again, assuming the litmus test is “X-characters who have interacted with Wolverine throughout his life” I can make a case for Cable being on the Madripoor cover with Psylocke and Jubilee, assuming there is such a cover at all.

After searching the internet, I've learned that the only characters to have a level 7 in fighting ability in those early 90s card sets were Wolverine, Cable, Captain America, Sabretooth, Deadpool, Maverick, and Omega Red.

Yeah, I edited my post after some research. But check this out, they downgraded them in ‘95 and from then on were Level 6…

That’s what I was remembering. But Cable and Wolverine remained at Level 7…

Interesting bit of Marvel history there.

Interesting. Those must be from the series 3 card set because I don't think I've seen those before. I also learned they downgraded Captain America to a 6 too.

Yeah, hence my confusion. As I remember Cable and Logan being the only Level 7 fighting ability guys in the whole card set in later years (beyond ‘95). Not sure I agree with it, but it is what it is I suppose. And I don’t think characters like Shang Chi, for example (who would no doubt be a Level 7 fighting ability guy) even made the cut and got a card.

A testament to the popularity of the X-men at that time I suppose.
