From the article, it seems that it's just a back up in Detective for now.

Guess is that it’s leading into a Batman/Superman relaunch. Williamson’s Robin backups led into Damian’s solo series. This is probably leading into something similar.

An in-continuity book featuring the two? Wonder if it'll be set in "current time" or if it's flashbacks to their early years (as I'm guessing Waid may prefer). I was under the impression his rumored project was an out-of-continuity story, though.

The costumes look more "retro" even compared to how Mora draws Batman's classic look in Detective Comics.

Waid/Mora on the World's Finest will be a treat. Can't wait. That's a combo I can accept losing Yang for, though I still want to read his solo Superman or a Shazam/Monkey Prince team-up book.
    May we never forget:

It will be. Hitch said it’s Black Label and I really doubt this is in any way connected to that project. Waid is likely doing two projects, Batman/Superman in the main continuity and whatever that other project will be outside the main.

Two DC marketing guys replied to this tweet teasing that a Batman/Superman book would be cool. Yeah I think it’s coming now lol.

Hopefully, they approach this similarly to how Waid did Barry & Hal in Brave & Bold, so we get a bunch of stories across both of their long careers, but without having to jump through all the stupid continuity hoops Carlin was so obsessed with.

Kind of weird to me that this seems to be going for a “retro” vibe though. Waid is on record as not being happy about being typecast as the retro guy. Very curious to see how he approaches this.

I hope that Yang left because he wanted to and not because DC wanted Waid on Batman/Superman. Waid has his fans, but to me it is a massive downgrade.

Said he had to leave because of other projects.

The retro look and the wording of the announcement make me think it's BM and SM's first meeting.

"And finally, writer Mark Waid teams up with long-running Detective Comics artist Dan Mora for a new story set in the DC Universe, bringing readers to the start of a brand-new day for Batman… and Superman. This is just the beginning for Waid and Mora—and for Superman and Batman!"

    https://www.dccomics.com/blog/2021/1...n-the-new-year

And, yes, it's a prelude to an upcoming series by Waid/Mora according to DC Connect.

So we’ve had Byrne’s take on Post Crisis, Pak did the first meeting in the New 52, so this could be another first telling for the World’s Finest? Curious how Waid would write the two in their early days, particularly Superman. Mora drawing Superman regularly is going to be a treat!

Can we call this the "Rebirth" first meeting or would that have to be something else...
