I got The New 52, along with a lot of people, which I think goes to show what a catch-all version of the character this was (at least in the first few years). N52 is definitely not a favourite of mine but I certainly don't hate the era.

Maybe he was a better 'Superman for all fans' than he's given credit for. Shame editorial was such a mess.
"Has Sariel summoned you here, Azrael? Have you come to witness the miracle of your brethren arriving on Earth?"

"I WILL MIX THE ASHES OF YOUR BONES WITH SALT AND USE THEM TO ENSURE THE EARTH THE TEMPLARS TILLED NEVER BEARS FRUIT AGAIN!"

"*sigh* I hoped it was for the miracle."

Dan Watters' Azrael was incredible, a constant delight and perhaps too good for this world (but not the Forth). For the love of St. Dumas, DC, give us more!!!

I honestly think if editorial hadn't pushed too far with certain things, we still could have been reading N52 Supes in this post Rebirth phase. The Super line might look different, would Jon even exist?

What! Crazy. All I could think of when I made this was “manwhohaseverything better get Golden Age”. Maybe power levels and some personal traits skewed it the other way. Would be interested to hear some of your choices.

That must be it.I still prefer leaping with agility and acrobatics to flight.Clark is generally pretty Powerful. Not that he can't get his ass kicked.

    My choices and reasons.

I like trunks(i chose long) and stuff like that but not in the farmboy awe!shucks way.. A bit dark closer to dcau or max fliescher..Superman debuted at night and was scary as eff.I prefer superman's costume coming from the circus..

Superman is the real deal.Clark kent with glasses is fake.Superman's got fire, energy to spare. He is stylish and Debonair like zorro. He is a genius in intellect.a hercules in strength.(he can get his ass kicked in everyway).

His parents(sky ones and earth ones) passed away and ain't got nothing to do with Clark kent becoming superman.I don't think they would agree with clark at all.He knows he isn't normal or an alien. He feels a level of solitude growing up due to it.But, generally clark sociable and wants a family. He likes people. He always smiles for the same reason. He also values a society with humour.

I am not into "american way" although that still counts as goldenage.Superman is outlaw so he doesn't represent any form of institutions, organizations,state..etc.So can't really represent america.Superman is about doing the right thing. He will take on the entire world if it means doing that...let alone his country, his family..etc or whomever. He will work with people as well for the same reason. But,he is more about individuals and ideals.that means he is dangerous and people have a right to be afraid of him.But that also means there will be people that follow him to the abyss.

If some jackass wants to die by his own sword clark wouldn't get angsty about it.He would be bothered but, clark is about resolve. He is about protecting the weak.Because that's the only right thing to do for a person with strength. If clark decides to protect something,he would.

He saves people because it's the right thing to do.He hasn't taken on the role of some kinda savior and example figure. At best he is a champion. If people thinks superman has some qualities worth emulating good for them. But,he ain't got no time for fakery, babysitting and boyscout business. He ain't your dad.I think people would appreciate his being genuine and lack of condescenion when he is kind.In general though clark would always be there as your closest goofy friend.

Didio thought he could sell ice cubes to Eskimos. He honestly thought he could convince fans to turn on Dick Grayson. I loved New 52 Superman but I have no illusions about how badly the ball was dropped here and why.

I really doubt that new 52 Superman was sustainable

You have to revamp new 52 Superman into something different from the very foundation

New 52 had everything against him in hindsight

Making matters worse is that unlike Jon…new 52 Superman never really had much significance to a certain segment of the fanbase that incentivized people to support him.

Jon represents a complete rejection to the new 52’s Superman

Thus much of his fanbase intersects with those that truly loathe new 52 superman because to them, getting rid of Jon and the marriage intersects with bringing new 52 Superman back

    Which isn’t acceptable

Whereas most new 52 superman fans are really only fans of grant Morrison’s take on the character, which only lasted about a few arcs

Most of them would be on board with daddy Superman if he was more socialist

I can't speak for others, but I only like daddy Superman outside of the main continuity. I largely enjoyed Morrison's arc because it took away a lot of the passivity of Superman that had crept into the stories throughout the years.

I also tend to think that the differences between Superman across the eras tends to be overblown. A lot of the time, I felt that the New 52 books by guys like Greg Pak read a lot like Post-Crisis Superman, as far as Superman's introspection was portrayed. The differences that stood out were things like his costume, his marital status, etc., but those don't really affect the average issue. It's not like each time he was pondering who his real identity was, Clark or Superman.

Golden Age for me, although I did say no trunks

    Fun poll/questionnaire!

Really highlights the uniqueness and fun that can be had with the different versions, regardless of what people’s preferences are. It may have been a bit boring if he was exactly the same for all these years.

“Look, you can’t put the Superman #77s with the #200s. They haven’t even discovered Red Kryptonite yet. And you can’t put the #98s with the #300s, Lori Lemaris hasn’t even been introduced.” — Sam

I tend to think it's because There is a lack of cohesive vision in new52.

The lack of cohesion is certainly true, but I think it's also that Superman doesn't have to be all in your face about the things that are distinctly New 52. It's not like when he's fighting a villain, he's going to give a speech about how he was having a conversation with his GF Wonder Woman about what it's like to be orphaned and wondering if the collar and trunkless costume are appropriately stylish enough for social crusader superheroes. I really think there are some universal traits across the Superman of different eras that you'll naturally see a lot of commonalities if you picked two books at random.

Also, take a concept like who is the real person and who's the secret ID, Superman or Clark Kent? I know what Morrison's take is, but I'm not totally sure I know what New 52 Superman's opinion is. To me, it's really not THAT important of a plot point, except I do get annoyed when the character goes out of his way to say Superman is a facade or that he's just a farmboy at heart or stuff like that. Thankfully, there isn't a line like that every other issue, so it ends up being more of a trivia tidbit than a central theme.
