But then you inevitably run into the same old problem taking any character away from the role they occupy. People always clamour for the original. We do have Lady Ock, true. But eventually a writer will come along and want to use OG Doc Ock. So, we have to potential deny any future stories that could be told with a villainous Ock because a contingent of the fan base wants him to stay the Superior Spider-man forever?
The story was only ever meant to last a certain length of time. There is nothing stopping them from doing a time-travel story featuring Superior down the line or even a alternate reality version. But the story needs to settle for awhile before you touch upon it again. Ben wasn't seen for, what, nearly 20 years before they brought him back?
As for Masterson, there is nothing stopping them from bringing him back. But I think his character arc reached a natural conclusion. That's just my opinion. Maybe he will comeback someday. But he was been gone decades at this point. So, even if he was to comeback, enough time has passed for it to feel fresh. Superior only just wrapped a few years ago.
I mean, we've kinda had Classic Ock for decades at this point. It's safe to say they've exhausted a lot of options at this point.
Now, I would love to see Superior again, but my biggest gripe is the loss of genuine character development. It seems like they're not completely reverting the character back to a full on villain so maybe there's hope
Ben Reilly as Spider-Man, Doc Ock wearing his white suit... how long before Kaine snaps his neck again? :P
