    Cap's "indestructable" shield shatters.
Cap becomes dilusioned with America, someone else becomes Captain America.
    The Avengers change the guard.
    Iron Man upgrades his armor.
Wolverine's healing factor starts to fail.
Mind here, these are cliche turning points at Marvel, doesn't mean that good stories can't come out of them.

    Peace

I think with the both the Nomad storyline and the Captain storyline it was well done with regards to Cap giving it up.

I hate that one most of all...because they have to find a way to get the ID secret again. Then you have deals with the devil or global mind control.

Hulk getting cured, or alternatively, Banner having a degree of control over the Hulk's body (Or thinking he does).

Magneto getting retconned as a robot (During the first Polaris story?), clone (Joseph) or another mutant entirely (Xorn)

To be fair, that's a natural development with a technology based superhero.
