    18. Wasp Woman (1959) - A woman in charge of a cosmetic company finds a way to become young again, using wasp royal jelly, and ends up turning into a wasp woman and killing people. Its better than it sounds. I laughed quite a bit when the wasp woman made her first appearance. It was literally a buggy looking mask, gloves and a furry torso sheath, and she would run at people waving her arms and shaking her head. Its just a damn shame that one guy threw Carbolic Acid at her and made her fall out of a window.

    19. The Canterville Ghost (1985) - A made-for-TV movie, meant for kids, that is about a ghost that needs to find a brave member of his family to free him from a curse. Dull movie, I fell asleep off and on, and felt like I didn't really miss a thing.

    20. The Terror (1963) - Something about a Baron, who was actually not, and a girl he somehow married who was way younger haunting him trying to make him commit suicide? And Jack Nicholson was there to stop it from happening. This is what happens when you make a movie just because you can. Corman had finished filming the Raven two days early so he used the sets and filmed some Boris Karloff stuff to use in a new film. Without a script or plot. Six directors later, including a young Coppola, the film was finished. The end result is a ton of shots of people just walking around, and this mishmash of stuff and lines and performances that don't quite make a ton of sense much of the time.

When the unbearable Deetzes (Catherine O'Hara, Jeffrey Jones) and teen daughter Lydia (Winona Ryder) buy the home, the Maitlands attempt to scare them away without success. Their efforts attract Beetlejuice (Michael Keaton), a rambunctious spirit whose "help" quickly becomes dangerous for the Maitlands and innocent Lydia.

Pretty much the spiritual pilot for Star Trek. Debut of scifi icon Robbie the Robot. Leslie Nielsen is serious.

There's been some talk of a remake a few times, it could really work with the right director.
I really dig the monster scenes and the eerie spacey music. I wish the hero ship, the C57D, had an actual name.

You're Next has become a fave of mine in recent years. What starts out seeming like a fairly typical (if well made and stylish) home invasion/slasher is turned into something else by a very simple twist. Aussie actress Sharni Vinson is really good in this and should probably big a bigger name. If you look at Barbara Crampton's filmography, she returned to horror movies aith this after a 7 year absence from the genre, and has been making them almost nonstop since. Directed by Adam Wingard and written by Simon Barrett, the duo who also made The Guest with a similar vibe. Later they did The Blair Witch, which is utterly forgettable.

AKA La Chiesa. Researchers unearth the darkness buried beneath a medieval cathedral. It's produced by Dario Argento, so you can expect some striking visuals to go along with all the audio dubbing. In the second half of the movie, people get trapped inside the church and what's when things just start to get very random. You can still follow the basic story, but people just seem to vanish without any explanation and it feels like whole scenes and subplots may be missing.

    80. Under The Skin (2013) - Scarlett Johansson plays an alien disguised as a human woman who lures isolated and lonely men to an abandoned building where they become trapped in a black void, their bodies consumed or processed for some unknown purpose. She gradually begins to relate to humans after time among them. Some might question whether the film really qualifies as horror, but imo it has just the right eerie, unsettling vibe I absolutely love in good, slow burn horror.

    81. Event Horizon (1997) - A rescue vessel is sent to investigate the reappearance of the Event Horizon, in orbit around Neptune, seven years after the ship was lost. Constructed to test an experimental gravity drive for interstellar travel, the Event Horizon journeyed beyond our universe and returned possessed by a malevolent entity from another dimension. Despite its flaws, this is another long time favorite, creepiest engine room in all sci-fi.

    82. Shaun Of The Dead (2004) - Shaun resolves to sort out his life and win back his girlfriend, Liz, but the zombie apocalypse may just exacerbate things and derail his plans. One of my top favorite movies of any category.

    83. Zombieland (2009) - Basically the US response to Shaun Of The Dead, and in typical American fashion it features WAY more guns. It's not nearly as sharp, witty or funny as SotD, but it has its moments, and it's definitely a fun and entertaining ride. I still haven't seen Zombieland: Double Tap yet.

I think I've seen a few minutes of this here and there over the years, but this is my first time all the way through. And I'm kind of disappointed at how slight it felt. The Vic Morrow segment for the obvious reason, and the gremlin and "It's a Good Life" segments for being a bit SFX-over-character. (I couldn't help but laugh when I heard Jerry Goldsmith's proto-Gremlins theme in this score) I felt like the most fully-realized segment was "Kick the Can", the lone non-horror one.

    26b. Zaat (1971)

This is a hilariously bad movie about a scientist who turns himself into a catfish-monster. I really only watched it because of Red Letter Media's glowing "so bad it's good" review. But I don't have their same fortitude for watching bad movies straight, so I once again needed the assistance of the MST3K crew.

British-German action horror film directed by Peter Thorwarth, who co-wrote the screenplay with Stefan Holtz. A German widow boards a plane on route to New York City with her young son where there is illness afflicting her. Hijackers on board take over the plane shortly after takeoff. Now with the flight diverted and passengers’ lives at risk, Nadja reveals her illness – she is a vampire.

While at times a bit campy and filled with plot convince this movie was really enjoyable.

    21. Terror Birds (2016) - A low budget Jurassic Park clone. When a daughter goes to find her missing father she finds that he was killed on a private estate by terror birds. This low-budget, cheesy horror film had a lot of CGI and actually fairly decent acting performances for what it was but the plot was horribly mundane. The best thing about it were the henchmen, who just had that perfect blend of dumb, serious and pitiful that you want to see in a good henchman. Still, like a dental cleaning it was over pretty quickly and relatively painless.

    22. Fright Night (1985) - Vampire moves in next door to a teenager and he steels himself to do something about it. Another classic I watch every year around this time. The best things about this movie are the 1980s soundtrack, the homages to classic vampire films, Christopher Sarandon's vampire, and the scary practical effects. Directed by Tom Holland, a severely underrated horror guru, the movie is worth a watch for anyone into classic horror and the 1980s.

British independent horror film directed by Paul Hyett and starring Ed Speleers. When passengers on a train are attacked by a creature, they must band together in order to survive until morning.

    Werewolves on a train!

What's not to like, I'm bit surprised that this has not become a cult classic. Predictable, a little slow and the characters are stereotypical but I think if you like low-budget monster movies you'll enjoy this.

    84. The Barn (2016) - Low budget, Halloween-themed, 80s styled, supernatural, slasher horror with the requisit sub-par acting that comrs with the territory. There's a lot thrown into the mix, including an awkwardly bad bit role played by Linnea Quigley, it's kind of a cross between Trick R Treat's folklore and rules of Halloween crossed with Night Of The Demons, thin as tissue plot, but good campy fun with some bloody kills.

    85. The Lighthouse (2019) - Set in the 1890s, the film centers on two lighthouse keepers and their descent into alcohol-fueled maddness after a storm strands them on the remote and desolate island. Robert Eggers follow-up to The Witch similarly deals with New England folklore and themes, while also weaving in the Greek myth of Prometheus. Standout performances from both Willem Dafoe and Robert Pattison.

    86. A Nightmare On Elm Street (1984) - From IMDb: "The monstrous spirit of a slain child murderer seeks revenge by invading the dreams of teenagers whose parents were responsible for his untimely death." The movie which, for better or worse (depending upon which sequel we're talking about) introduced the supernatural slasher icon Freddy Krueger to the world, and both kept New Line Cinema out or bankruptcy and revitalized Wes Ctaven's career.

    87. Suspiria (2018) - More a reimagining, as opposed to a remake, of the 1977 original, it uses the premise as a framework for its own ends, personally I find this version much more engaging, and certainly more horrifying, than the first.

Christopher Lee was really keen to do this role and you can see why. It's intense and energetic and he relishes every scene as the mystic who manipulates his way into the Russian royal court. I'm sure it's a loose interpretation of history, but it's a striking example of Hammer's style when it really works. Lee is great, I would say it's somewhat of a shame they didn't get another actor of his caliber to oppose him. Also, the real Rasputin was so notoriously hard to kill that the resolution here actually seems comparatively easy. Nice sets and a strong score. I kind of wish they had completely thrown history to the wind and brought Rasputin back for sequels. Hey, Hellboy did it eventually.

Is this the reason that the Castlevania games had Medusa head enemies? Why else would that be a thing when so much of the aesthetics were based on the classic and Hammer monster flicks? Anyway, a German village is terrorized by spirit that turns people into stone. I wonder if she's pissed because the village knows her as Megaera, but that's one of the Furies, not a Gorgon. Peter Cushing has a major role, rather ambiguous as to what side he's on. Just as the movie starts to lose momentum, Christopher Lee shows up as a feisty professor and man of action. A solid Hammer entry that suffers mainly from not doing more with its lore in favor of trying to maintain a fairly trite mystery.

Both movies for today featured Barbara Shelly, in very different roles.

    27a. Razorback (1984)

A decent-enough schlocky monster movie made in Australia. Aussies go hard, too; the action is kicked off by a baby being killed in the very first scene.

Probably my biggest issue with the movie is that a couple of human villains, and they were WAY more hateful than the pig. Half of the razorback's kills are a result of the human villains' actions, and it just kind of leaves you feeling madder at them than you are scared of the monster.

    27b. Galaxy of Terror (1981)

What an eclectic cast for this one. Freddy Kreuger, Sid Haig, Joanie from Happy Days, and Laura Palmer's mom from Twin Peaks. Produced by Roger Corman, and featuring a young James Cameron as the Second Unit Director.

I imagine this got made because someone went to Corman and said, "Can you make a movie that looks like Alien for a thousand dollars?" And he said, "Sucker, I can do it and give you $200 change." And he did it, and it's not terrible! It almost never is. And frankly, I can think of several movies that came after this one to utilize the same "evil thing creates manifestations of your own fears to kill you" plot.

Cameron is all over that movie, he was also put in charge of special effects and production design. I think he met Bill Paxton working as a carpenter.
