Vincent Price plays a frustrated Shakespearean actor performing bloody revenge on his critics. It's a fun time, but should have been 10 or 15 minutes shorter. There's no question about who who the killer is, why he's killing, who the targets are, or who is helping him. Plus, the last couple murders are kind of running out of creative steam. But Price and Diana Rigg are having a ball.

A bookish young woman is brutalized and left to die in the woods by a corrupt small town sheriff and her criminal family. She gets bitten by a wolf, starts undergoing the change, and finds herself with the means to take revenge on her assailants. It's set in the present day but goes for an 80s visual and musical aesthetic, which other movies have done better. If anything, I think the revenge element called for something with more of a 70s Grindhouse feel. The biggest weakness is that the villains are all one-note and kind of half-assed. They know about werewolves but they take very little action to go after the heroine. It's hard to get invested in Lisa's confrontation with the sheriff when the sheriff seems almost disinterested in Lisa's actions.

Still, it's a solid werewolf flick, and the 20th was a full moon so I'm glad I found it.

Directed and produced by Robert Eggers, who co-wrote the screenplay with his brother Max Eggers, is a horror/psychological thriller that deserved all the praise it received, it was thoroughly engaging, bonkers, and funny with astounding performances from Dafoe and Pattinson.

    20) The Call (2020)

American horror film directed by Timothy Woodward Jr. After the unexpected death of an elderly woman suspected to be a witch, a group of friends who tormented her are forced to call a phone installed in her casket.
Its meh I am not sure if this movie knew what it wanted to be, just seems like a bunch of different ideas jumbled together.

I had to come back and edit this in because I completely forgot that I watched. Which doesn't say much for Candyman 2, I suppose. However, I wouldn't say anything was really bad, it's just that this is the kind of premise that might only work once. It's noted by the folklore professor in the beginning that the Candyman story has spread to many places, which raises the possibility that this is a different being altogether from the first movie.

Ol' Jack Burton says if movie has sorcery, ghosts, monsters, and black blood of the Earth, then you bet yer ass it's good enough for Halloween.

I love this movie. Rich Evans of Red Letter Media recently described this in a way that completely sums it up for me: while it's on it it seems like the greatest movie ever, just because it's so engaging and always moving. When it's over and you look back on it, you realize it's not that *that* great...but still pretty great. It's a fantastic supernatural action comedy with great performances.

Also known by the more generic title of The Demon Hunter. Basically a splatterhouse version of Fallen, with Dolph Lundren as a grizzled hunter out to stop a body-hopping demon on a rampage. The demon possesses whoever killed its last body, which makes hunting it a bit complicated.

I know I'm late to the party on this one, but god DAMN, was it good. A teenage street gang and the inhabitants of a South London high-rise are attacked by monstrous aliens that look like "wolf gorillas". Starring a then-unknown John Boyega and a not-unknown-but-not-yet-Doctor-Who Jodie Whittaker.

    68. Don't Go In The House (1980) - A man obsessed with fire, and suffering lingering childhood trauma due to abuse by his mother, has a mental breakdown after her death, and begins hearing voices compelling him to burn the evil from the world. He then lures women to his house where he burns them alive, dresses their charred corpses and talks to them as if still living, while his mental state continues to deteriorate. "Fun" is not a word I'd associate with this move, dark, mean-spirited and misanthropic are far more fitting, I have friends who've commented that they feel like they need to take a bath after watching this one.

    69. Deathgasm (2015) - While browsing Tubi I found this horror comedy, pretty certain I'd never seen it before, but then there were some scenes which seemed vaguely familiar, so now I'm not sure. A group of friends form a metal band, after finding old, tattered pages of sheet music they play the song, the so-called Black Hymn, which summon demons that possess the townspeople. Now that the gates of hell are open, they are in a race gainst time to prevent a satanic cult from summoning the head demon, which will bring about the end of the world. This movie is essentially the New Zealand heavy metal Evil Dead, the influence is clearly obvious in the motion and mannerisms of the main demon-possessed characters, one even straight up belts out the line "I'll swallow (possibly 'eat', I don't remember exactly) your soul!". The movie doesn't do anything particularly new, but does it all well, is genuinely funny and entertaining, and doesn't skimp on the blood.

    70. THINGS (1989) - Where to even begin with THINGS? IMDb says the following: "An impotent husband, driven by a fanatical desire to father children, forces his wife to undergo a dangerous experiment. The result: the birth of a multitude of monstrous THINGS.", the problem is almost any plot summary is going to make THINGS sound infinitely better than it actually is, maybe just stop there and thank me later. THINGS will make you wonder how the hell anyone in their right mind could have thought Ed Wood was the worst filmmaker of all time beyond the '80s, THINGS makes the iPhone video your kids shot in an afternoon for a class project look like an Oscar contender, THINGS is essentially what you get when you mix together a few dudes with a dream, a couple cases of beer, enough money for an 8mm film camera, and absolutely no clue what they're doing. Everything about this film is not just bad, but awful, the camera work, the lighting, the acting and dialogue, the editing of both the film and audio, the THINGS themselves... I could go on, but I'm sure you get the picture. Any claim that it's so-bad-it's-good is tenuous at best, and is highly dependent upon your personal love/tolerance for low rent, bargain basement, low budget, no-grade cinema.

Ok so I hit the Mount Rushmore of slasher films (at least what I think it is). Michael Myers is an icon there is no doubt. I was not really a fan of the Rob Zombie reboot but it still worked. I can understand the reason for the newer branch off to go away from the Jamie Lloyd story as both Revenge and Curse kind of went off the rails with the cult of Michael Myers type of theme that really went out there. Origins don't really work when it was kind of shoe horned in like that. H20 was good and was nice to get back to Laurie Strode.. then there is Resurrection, it is best forgotten.
Halloween Kills, I didn't like as well as Halloween 2018, it really took away for the Michael/Laurie dynamic that was set up, it could have been better.

Oh I totally forgot Halloween III, Tom Atkins it royalty and will fight any one that says different. The main issue with this movie is the name if it were not in the Halloween franchise I don't think that there would be half the criticism there is about it. And I really like the nods to it in Halloween 2018 and Halloween Kills.

A scientist, funded by a rich benefactor, learns how to make people temporarily invisible and puts out an ad for test subjects, ends up partnering with a woman who he turns invisible a few times. The first time the woman immediately runs off to her boss and scares him into treating his employees better. The rest of the times she turns invisible have to do with the benefactor, who falls for the woman and the whole thing becomes a comedy romance. Bleh! This movie was disappointing in almost every way, just a vacuous pile of poo. But it was kind of interesting to see what passed for an assertive woman in 1940.
Every day is a gift, not a given right.

    18) Stephen King's Thinner (1996). Not great, but solidly entertaining. The ending's kind of weird, almost turns into a dark comedy for the last 30 seconds.

It's a lot like last year's Vampires vs the The Bronx in that it's a perfectly fine "youths against vamps" film, but nothing that hasn't been done before aside perhaps from the race of the main cast members. This time the lead is a teenage girl in New Orleans, and the vampires are building their numbers among the poor and homeless. It's pretty strong until the last third or so, when we get a deux ex machina allies introduced *and* our heroes become incredibly stupid. Like, they're dumber than the kids in movies like this usually are. How do you go vampire hunting and never even try crosses? Why, after using garlic to great effect earlier in the night, would you then go after the master vampire specifically with nothing but stakes? Why can't they tell their better suited allies where they're going, or even wait for daylight? The smartest member of the group is the one who just freakin' bails on them before the finale!

I also wish Keith David was in this more. I thought the flamboyantly gay best friend if the main girl trope was played out by now, but apparently this vamp movie wanted to homage 90s romcoms?. Also, there's a subplot about the girl being insecure about how dark her skin is, her brother even calls her Wesley Snipes. OK, fine, that's a real thing...but to be frank I wondered by the end if something wrong with my TV, as she does *not* look noticeably darker than the other characters she's comparing herself to. Like realistically, she would just say, "WTF are you talking about" to her brother. Also I think the dad would have said something more than he did here. And then the way she revolves this complex is really easy and trite.

Similar to Vampire vs the Bronx, the movie eschews subtext in favor of just having the bad guys spell out their motives in the actual text.

The silent version. I watched this for the sake of having finally watched it. Some very nice sets and great makeup on Lon Cheney, as well as a fine performance behind it. The only other version of this story I've really seen is the Schumacher movie version of the Broadway musical. I think just don't find the Phantom very compelling or interesting. Nor do I care about the good characters.
The ending brought to mind a Simpsons gem: "There's no justice like angry mob justice." The mob actually get their man and save the day here! This Phantom isn't very sympathetic, either. At least Frankenstein's monster didn't really know better.

    19) Stephen King's The Night Flier (1997). Oof, another rough one to get through. Still, Miguel Ferrer's in it, so that barely makes it watchable.
