It's kind of implied they might have eloped too, the Hotel guy refers to Madeline as Bond's wife; although there's never any other use of that in the movie. It's possible it was just some kind of cover to throw off anybody looking for them-Bond has been in a few fake marriages in the old continuity(Mr. and Mrs. Somerset from FRWL, him and Kissy from YOLT, Mrs. Bond from LALD although that was mainly Rosie's doing) in addition to his real one with Tracy. Also the fake couple bit in Casino Royale which Bond dropped immediately.


Also possible that maybe Hotel guy was on the SPECTRE payroll too like the cemetery employee and it's part of the setup for him to mistrust Madeline.
