It's got some surprisingly nasty stuff showing some of the human toll of the battles (Which we see in some of the movies), with some people melting into skeletons from hedorah's attacks. Even happens to Godzilla's hand at one point.

Yeah, I never understood why the series became more gruesome and had relatively more swearing despite becoming more kid friendly. Maybe because these were made in the 70s?

Swearing is not taboo in Japan like in America. Same with little kids seeing gore is in America.

Watch some sentai. Damns hells and other words are quite normal.

I think one of the other films from the era (Gigan?) actually shows Godzilla bleeding.

The first two films I think are also fairly brutal with the civilian injuries as well. Later on, Return of (Or Godzilla 1985) also has wizened corpses at the beginning (What's left of the fishing boat crew, possibly drained by the giant sea lice) and implied mass casualties later when Godzilla ignites a traffic jam (Which I'm told is actually stock footage they borrowed from another disaster movie).

Yeah, Gigan first made Godzilla bleed in Godzilla vs. Gigan. MechaGodzilla did the same in Godzilla vs. MechaGodzilla (1974)
