Other than a "Batman Beyond" film, I think it was a mistake to try and make 70 year old Michael Keaton "the" in-universe Batman. It makes about as much sense as hiring Adam West would have back in 1998 to be the Batman in a "Death of Superman" film.

Nope. That's just a quarter of the amount they spend making it. They could earn more by releasing it.

Definitely. This is a bottom line decision that was made to appease shareholders and WBDiscovery is dressing it up as a creative decisions meant to refocus and revitalize the DCEU. That was the only move they had once they decided to cancel the film. Fans don't care about shareholder's purses. They care about being effectively teased and lied to for over a year about a movie they'll never get to see now. So, the execs have n choice but to paint it as a necessary evil on the road to something worthwhile. That being said, if we actually do get a revitalized DCEU out of this, I'll consider it a win.

Quibbling over tax write off or quality as the reason is kind of pointless honestly. At the end of the day if they are taking the tax write off, they think it is the best financial decision they can make to get their money. Meaning they had to have taken the quality of the film and their estimation of being able to get enough profit out of it. However they arrived at that estimation.

Usually in a huge merger like this the new owners are going to want an accounting of major projects. That could include completely re selling your plans or ideas, or financial information on the project again. I would expect they would have wanted to basically pitch this movie again. Why did we want to do this character/story? Why HBO Max and not a film? Does it connect at all to any other comic property film or tv? Why or Why not. Then obviously you have the money guys checking the books. Creatively it might not matter if the books and profit potential are not there.

Without even clicking on the link I'm betting that most are female-centric shows and movies

Heh. Were those films any good? Never watched them or the kids cartoon based on them.

They were fun dumb movies about high school kids threwing a house party and it getting out of their control. I enjoyed them when I was a kid.

The first House Party is a cultural CLASSIC!! The sequel was pretty "meh."

We do not speak of the 3rd...

Discovery, which deals with cooking and home renovation shows, now is in charge of a large entertainment company, which they probably overpaid for and found out it will not have the revenue stream they thought it would. The last thing they consider is if something is "good" or not, or if it is something with a fan base. It's all dollars and cents.
To me this was all a ego trip to make themselves a big media company. It will probably end badly for them and the viewers.
There came a time when the Old Gods died! The Brave died with the Cunning! The Noble perished locked in battle with unleashed Evil! It was the last day for them! An ancient era was passing in fiery holocaust!
