Some people are saying this is a sign that WB is going to be more coordinated in their approach to superhero movies.

Actions like these show the exact opposite. According to reports, other studios are actually in utter shock because it’s almost completely unheard for a project of this scale to be dumped completely.

Any company that wants to work with WB will need some concrete assurances because a company that’s prepared to write-off a $90 million project for no apparent reason doesn’t look like it knows what it’s doing. They could just as well shelve any project they don’t “like” for nebulous reasons. Between the previous regime throwing tens of millions of dollars at the Snyder cut to them just throwing away a project for no reason, it doesn’t show that WB really know what they are doing.

At least put it on streaming. It would have made something. I was also hoping that they would just do some reshoots so that it's really more of a sequel to the Burton verse and divorced entirely from the Flashpoint nonsense.
The movie was made for HBO Max.

Tying this movie with the Burton verse would be a huge mess. Babs was Alfred's niece in that universe since Gordon was a non-entity

There was also another Scooby Doo movie that hadn't started filming yet but was being worked on.

I'd say close to $140-150 million the CEO flushed down a toilet.

I also read comments saying this is a "good" thing female empowerment and "woke" Batgirl is getting cancelled so...

"We hope to collaborate with everyone again in the near future" - if this doesn't immediately put them off from working with WB because they did this in the first place.

I know a Holiday Haunt creative who was really ticked WB did this.

This article explains why they were able to cancel the film as it was due to a unique financial situation that only exists up until the middle of this month related to the studio changing hands. Which means it is unlikely to axe any other films. It seems the film only did one set of testing and came out OK with audiences. It really did come down to them rejecting the idea of making cheaper straight to HBO Max films. It also reminds you the company is carrying a 3 billion dollar debt which was a factor in this as well.

If the movie was as bad as everyone said it was aren't Warner Brothers was doing the actors a favor?

The budget wasn't doing it any favors for everyone involved. Zaslav wants movies with a big event and scope hopefully Blue Beetle doesn't get the axe at least it is similar to Shazam in that regard.

Indiewire backs up the NYPost reporting that test screenings did not go over well.
    https://www.indiewire.com/2022/08/ba...se-1234747665/

The New York Post, which first reported the news that “Batgirl” would not see the light of day (or of the Bat Signal at night), cited a source who called the quality of the movie “unspeakable.” They wrote that test screenings were “so poorly received by moviegoers that the studio decided to cut its losses and run.” IndieWire confirmed that there were test screenings of “Batgirl” that received poor marks. But the low marks were not without precedent, one person told us.
    Sincerely,

Yet that is contradicted by the Deadline article. Anyway when has a film being bad stopped a studio releasing it, looking at Morbius here.

So bad, they released it twice.

Deadline and Variety claim otherwise, though. And if it was just about quality control then they wouldn't also be scrapping other projects too. This is a behind the scenes/executive move, most likely.

Here is a statement from the directors.
