Thread: Captain Comet

    Default Captain Comet

Captain Comet has been a favorite of mine since he started appearing in Secret Society of Super Villains in the 1970s. (I'm not old enough to have caught his appearances in the 1950s. I know that he has made spotty appearances over the decades, but with all the reboots, I'm not sure if he exists in the current DC Universe or if he is (again) a lost hero. Anybody have any information or thoughts on this? Wikipedia outlined a few appearances from 2011 and later, but I'm still not sure what his status is.

Don't know his current status, or future plans, but I've always really liked the character and wish he'd be used more often, and used well.

He's been a fave of mine since his SSoSV chasing days too! I liked seeing him in L.E.G.I.O.N. too. If memory serves he butted heads with Vril Dox quite a bit.

I always liked the character for his mix of physical and mental abilities. He never felt over-powered, but powerful enough to fend off Superman. I also like that CC was the first DC Mutant (that I heard about, anyway).

And then there was DC Special #27 (cover-dated April-May 1977):
It also featured Tommy Tomorrow (the blonde guy in purple) as well as Chronos (among others).

If his powers failed him, CC also had a "ray gun"!

For anybody who wasn't reading DC comic books from back then,
    * that "Kid Flash" on the cover is the original Wally West
(this was before CoIE and Barry's death)

    * that "Star Sapphire" was not Carol Ferris

I remember finding a Captain Comet story in an old bin of comic books in my grandmother's basement. I had never heard of the guy but he seemed pretty cool - I was a sucker for space adventures!

Years later I kinda fell in love with him in the LEGION title. I also love the short solo story in "Showcase '96" # 10, which heavily complicates Captain Comet's morality - but remains very sympathetic to him. I find it really likable, compelling stuff!

I've always had a certain fondness for him. He really should be used more.

Is there a collection of stories for CC? This thread made me want to really read a collection on him!

My first exposure to him was in REBELS. Always liked him since then. I second Pheonix99's question.: are there more stories with the character?

Captain Comet is a Great Character and I am like others first seen him in SSOSV in the 70's and then found out more about him.
Here's a chronology from the 50's to the Mid 80's to start.
They really do need to bring him back more.
