What or who was your gateway drug into X-Men comics?

I’ve read comics all my life. Kids comics, girls comics, humour comics, Sf comics, 2000 A.D and Warrior which led me to Alan Moore and Alan Davis. When the British Wave hit the US in the 80’s I followed.

I really can’t remember what was my first issue, it was a B&W reprint in Marvel UK comics, somewhere early in the Uncanny run, issue 97 or 98?
Because it was B&W, I didn’t realise Storm was black in the one I read.
I then started buying back issues, this had to be 1980 or 1981 because I was at collage doing my A levels.
I was getting a lot of them from a really dodgy comic-cum-sex-shop on Deansgate in Manchester (run by the deeply dodgy and sometimes imprisoned Dave Britton). I think I was the only girl who went in there, I would buy the tatty copy for £3 rather than the nice copy for £5

the 90s Animated series of course was influential, and my older uncle and cousin were big comicbook readers so I've always had them around.... but my first time jumping into comics and Xbooks was HoX-PoX and X of Swords. The idea of mutant liberation was too tantalizing to resist diving in head first.

The 90´s X-men TAS series, it helped it was done with a heavy comic influence so I had some idea who each character was. My brothers also had a collection of DC and Marvel comics so I was able to follow their story there right away. I already had read some DC stories with Superman, Green Lantern, Batman and the Justice League but my first marvel comic was X-men #1 Mutants Genesis and I went from there to know about the rest of the MU.

You want to know how old I am? It was the Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends show where I first saw the X-Men. After that I was in the hospital for something and wanted some comics to read so I asked my mom to get me and X-Men comic. It was issue 166 the double sized climax of the Brood Saga. I was hooked from there on.

My brother was a Punisher & Wolverine fan and took me w/ him to a local comicshop to pick up his books. We ended up staying there for hours as I was quickly smitten & enamored with Storm & Dr Strange. The rest is history. Been following X-Men & Storm since then.

The 1992 Arcade game and the old X-men DOS game is what got me into X-men

I used to really hate superhero stuff. Avoided it completely. But as a kid, my two exceptions were X-Men: Evolution, and Spectacular Spider-Man. I really dug Evolutions, especially its art style.

I didn't get deep into the rest of the franchise until I joined a comics-verse Marvel RP. My RP friend suggested I pick up Hellion, so I read the Academy X stuff to learn about him. I loved the character, loved the world, loved the lore. I branched off from there and the rest is history.

X-Men The Animated Series, for sure. And it's definitely influenced my favorite "versions" of the characters. I love Storm and Rogue's 90's outfits.

But I wanted it because I thought it was a FF story and I used to watch the cartoon.

Same......The first I saw of any X-Men character was the Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends episode where the X-Men fought Juggernaut.

The first issue of Uncanny X-Men I bought was around 5-6yrs later. Coincidentally, it also involved The Brood.
