Default Greg Hatcher has Passed Away

If you've been a member since when Jonah owned the boards, you probably knew Greg as one of the moderators and columnists. He had been battling cancer for about a year, now. He fought like hell, but, sadly, he lost that battle earlier today.

Greg was a good guy. He loved comics, pulp novels, and science fiction/fantasy TV series. His columns were often about TV shows like Manimal, Automan, and Star Trek or books like Doc Savage and John Carter.

For years, he ran an after-school comic club for kids. They would set up each year at the Emerald City Comic Con and the kids would draw sketches and make art just like all the other guests and professionals. They even made a couple comics. A few years back, he picked up a convention-exclusive Star Wars comic for me. Didn't even hesitate when I asked him, despite his busy schedule and limited free time at the convention.

He was my friend, even if I never actually got to meet him in person.

A GoFundMe has been set up to help his wife and family.

You can donate or share here.
Hope is not lost today. It is found.

RIP Greg. I only very recently learned that he was seriously ill. It had been some years since I interacted with him regularly. He was an important and well-liked member of the CBR Community from the early days and will be missed.

Yesterday, I was wondering why he didn’t participate anymore to the Cover contests… I had a bad feeling.

Rest in peace, Mr Hatcher… You looked like a good man…

So sorry to hear about his passing, though I did not know him personally I valued his contribution to the boards.

That is very sad. He seemed like a really nice guy.

Vale Greg. You will be missed.

I take some solace from my last interaction with him being my informing him of a collection of Sherlock Holmes stories by Edward D. Hoch; Sherlock Holmes being a mutual passion of ours. Greg did not even know that Hoch had written Holmes stories, which surprised me as it was rare for me to know something about Holmes that Greg did not. Greg immediately secured a copy, so I hope it gave him some pleasure before his passing. Who knows? Perhaps he is even discussing the Great Detective with late Mr. Hoch as I write this.

    Terrible news.
I was really hoping he'll beat cancer.

Thanks for the kind reviews, Greg.

Thoughts for all the friends and family whom he left behind. I just heard the news a short while ago and was taken off-guard. I guess I was a bit out of the loop as I didn't know he had been sick and fighting cancer. I didn't iteract with Greg often, but it was always a pleasant experience when I did, and his presence and writings were always something to brighten the day. He will be missed.
