Joe Kelly did wonders with J'onn in JLA, but I'll have to say Giffen and DeMatteis's take in Justice League International is my favorite.

The John Ostrander martian manhunter series is wonderful. Its very loving to the character. The art really suits the character as well.

I'd say this as well. He was the bedrock of the team, emotionally and in powers. He wasn't just "the guy on the monitor" or "the psychic link person." He was shown as a powerhouse, but that wasn't his purpose on the team. He was respected by all and his humanity was emphasized more than his alien-ness.

My favorite version will always be the one that had a crush on Rita Farr (from Doom Patrol):

Probably a mix of DCAU/Brave and the Bold/Supergirl.

    Post-COIE/Pre-Flashpoint is the correct answer.

Peter Tomasi at least did a pretty solid send-off for J'onn during Brightest Day.

Giffen/ Dematteis followed by New Frontier followed by Morrison's JLA followed by JLU followed by JL: Year One - so post-Crisis, mostly?

    I suppose Post Crisis.
I loved the way Morrison wrote him in JLA. He was the glue that held the team together but still had the mystery & aloofness about him.
Also thought the way Giffen/DeMatteis wrote him was brilliant.
Bronze goes to the Ostrander run on his solo title.

I'll try being nicer if you try being smarter.

Post-Crisis. It is the base for several of the other interpretations.
"Never assign to malice what is adequately explained by stupidity or ignorance."

"Great stories will always return to their original forms"

"Nobody is more dangerous than he who imagines himself pure in heart; for his purity, by definition, is unassailable." James Baldwin

I found it when I was looking for a different thread, but I figured it was maybe worth bumping up.
