Default Why doesn't Lex Luthor just not make himself into AMAZO?

We know Lex Luthor hates superman because: 1. He took away his destiny of being humanity's savior and making people aspire to be like him/hero worship him 2. Natural xenophia to aliens and his belief that it makes human's too reliant on outsiders and weak 3. His belief of superman having malicious intent because he does not believe anyone could be that altruistic 4. Natural fear of superman having too much power and potentially going mental one day and destroying the world.

We know that AMAZO is a force to be reckon with and is capable of having the power to kill kryptonians easily.

We also know that it is entirely possible to transfer one's mind into a machine in the DC universe as evident by Metallo's origin story.

"John Corben was a professional con man until he was fatally injured in a car crash. The dying Corben was found by ProfessorEmmet Vale, a specialist in cybernetics, who was obsessed with the idea thatSupermanwas the spearhead of an alien invasion after he discovered the ship that brought the infant Kal-El to earth and mistranslated a message from his fatherJor-Elto his son. Vale took the helpless Corben to his lab and transplanted his brain into a cyborg body powered by Uranium, to which upon awakening the cyborg, instructed him to kill Superman."

So the question becomes if Luthor hates superman so much, why not just put your mind into an amazo like body that still physically resembles you and go kill him with your bare hands? Hell, tack on your kryptonite suit if you want for extra safety

Different versions of Luthor may have different values and approaches, as well as different degrees of being, er, a "diseased maniac" or not. DCAU Luthor winds up pretty unhinged thanks to Brainiac's influence!

In terms of my ideal Lex though, I would say this: Luthor sees himself as The Ultimate Human Being, the absolute pinnacle of human achievement and potential. Lex needs to stay himself and stay Human when he defeats Superman, in order to prove his twisted meritocracy. To turn himself into an android, he would be admitting that the Ultimate Human isn't enough to defeat Superman, and that would defeat his whole philosophical point.

I was about to post that he did try to do this.

The meta answer OP is that Lex with super powers changes him far too much to ever be something permanent. But if I had to come up with an in-universe reason, I’d say Lex believes the most powerful weapon he has is his mind. Giving himself powers would mean he would come to rely on those powers, and that might cause his mental prowess to weaken.

Why hasn't someone from the GCPD or Arkham, or ambulance worker for that matter, "accidentally" killed The Joker? Why hasn't Wonder Woman made Man's World a Utopia of Loving Submission? Why is Earth not under constant siege by the armies of Apokalips? Why doesn't Darkseid just wait until Superman is busy fighting someone and then zap him with his Omega Beams? Why doesn't anyone recognize that Clark Kent is simply Superman with glasses?

The answers to these questions are all the same.

Why doesn't Harvey Dent just get plastic surgery?

Some traits are just classic and necessary for a character.

Look at how quick Harvey got messed up again after Hush. If Lex became Amazo he would revert to normal faster than I could blink

Obviously you are not familiar with any of the pre-coie versions of Lex Luthor. One reason he would not become amazo is that he (lex) did not create the technology. Plus he sees Professor Ivo as his intellectual inferior. His main goal was to crush and rule humanity. Then go on to conquer pretty much everything else that exists. Lex saw Superman as a self righteous jerk who always kept getting in Lex's way. And there were at least a few times when found ways to give himself superpowers like Superman has.

Exactly. Lex see himself above everyone and he doesn't like to see Superman above him. So he always is searching ways to put Superman below him, defeated, humilliated. Not jus dead, but broken.

Maybe the Lex who appeared in Neal's Coming of Supermen has opted for this.

In my opinion Lex prizes his humanity far too much. He believes himself to be the very peak of humanity so the idea of physically altering himself would sicken him. He'd see it as polluting himself and humanity in general. It's why he doesn't do drugs or anything like that (while his operation is still responsible for the city's drug trade) but allows himself the occasional cigar or alcoholic drink. He's the villain so can be a hypocrite.

I like a part of Lex's hatred of Superman being a mild xenophobia, that Earth's greatest hero isn't even a man and that bites at him (believing himself to be humanity's savior). It's a nice little contradiction, in that Superman is just a better human being than Lex without even being human.

It's one of the MANY problems I had with Snyder's take leading up to Death Metal.
"Has Sariel summoned you here, Azrael? Have you come to witness the miracle of your brethren arriving on Earth?"

"I WILL MIX THE ASHES OF YOUR BONES WITH SALT AND USE THEM TO ENSURE THE EARTH THE TEMPLARS TILLED NEVER BEARS FRUIT AGAIN!"

"*sigh* I hoped it was for the miracle."

Dan Watters' Azrael was incredible, a constant delight and perhaps too good for this world (but not the Forth). For the love of St. Dumas, DC, give us more!!!
