Default Justice League: Last Ride #7 discussion and spoilers

I really enjoyed this whole series. It made me realize how long it’s been since I’ve read a good Justice League series. Which is pretty depressing.

I’ve liked pretty much all of Zdarsky’s recent DC work. He somewhat left this open to a sequel so hopefully that happens. Justice League Universal?!? We always hear characters saying the League couldn’t help because they were “off planet”. Well, let’s see some of those off planet adventures.

My only major gripe with this issue is Batman being able to tackle Cyborg Superman/Brainiac mid flight. Rolled my eyes at Bats suddenly getting super speed and super strength. But you know, he’s Batman.

Can't say this series ever rose above serviceable autopilot for me.

There was some decent Hal moments throughout but Zdarsky proves to be yet another comics golden boy who thinks generic Warrior Woman is Diana's personality.

This read to me like arc that could have easily fit during Morrison's JLA - which is amazing of course

I thought it was fine. There were a few really awesome moments in there, but the whole thing felt too thematically shallow to really rise above being a perfectly serviceable Justice League story for me.

Art was amazing through and through, and the last issue delivered, but the overall story was nothing really memorable. Still people should check it out for the visuals if nothing else. It's a great looking book for sure.

LOVED the Hal moments in the finale. Yeah, that was awesome. The series on a whole was just okay in terms of story and art for me. I feel like a LOT of stories the last ten years don't have a second act. It's "setup, then something dramatic happens, then the finale." I also wasn't crazy about the big dissent in the group where Superman seemed completely unreasonable - he ditches Hal in the middle of their fight with Darkseid, fails to save J'onn as was his intention, blames Batman for J'onn's choice, then in the finale refuses to leave an injured Batman until J'onn has to convince him, even though the rest of the League is fighting the save the universe. I don't get those choices for him.

Interesting John/J'onn teamup. It was a nice counterpoint, if not outright refutation of John's actions in "Cosmic Odyssey" where he ditched J'onn rather than "the way we've always won -- together!"

I think if you're going to promote this as the "Last Ride" of the Justice League, at least make it the *last* JL story. It's out of continuity, so go for it. I feel that could have been a lot more dramatic and interesting than what we got here. (unless there are already plans for a follow-up with this new status quo)

It was a good ending, curiously, less negative than the title could have suggested in fact.

Yeah, the title was a little grim.
