Default The Punisher's (problematic) White skull symbol...

    Good article here ; https://www.theguardian.com/books/20...-matter-symbol

Maybe Dolph Lundgren had the right idea after all NOT wearing the skull in the punisher movie.

A cool story would be for Frank to go up against "The WHITE skull" a red-Skull wanna be and his followers who have been committing hate crimes. Frank could pour flesh eating acid over his face leaving him with a literal white skull face, he then opts for a plain clothes look , kicking @$$ without a symbol. A rainbow flag skull variant cover would be a cool way to stick it to hate groups.

YOUR thoughts, opinions and ideas on this?

Funny enough, the last Punisher writer, Matt Rosenberg, had a scene in one of his issues where Punisher/Frank called out some police officers who were appropriating his symbol, making it clear that the kind of thing he did wasn't what those sworn to protect and uphold law and order should be doing themselves, given their oath to higher principles and ideals compared to himself. That said, I think the real issue with the Punisher is that his style of vigilantism is much closer to life compared to the fantastical feats and abilities of most Marvel heroes or even anti-heroes, so it's much easier and more realistic for some people who identify with him to emulate him by amassing firearms and other military (or military-style) gear and setting up as if they're going to war. It doesn't help, either, that some of those people who identify with and wish to emulate him don't seem to understand that in the real world we all (supposedly) live in, indiscriminately killing everyone you think is a bad guy is a bad thing and you're more likely to also kill innocent people in the process.

(thanks) Would love to see DD, Cap, Spidey, Cage and other street heroes caught up in this issue. Would also love to see an Outlaw mini (UK punisher) written by Simon Spurrier and other Uk talents. He could deal with hoodie tower block gangs, lone wolf terrorists, human traffickers and other crimes facing Brits...

Funny enough, Al Ewing wrote Outlaw in Contest of Champions about five years ago and his portrayal of Outlaw was as someone who'd turned his back on vigilantism after realizing he was merely going after the symptoms and not the causes of the societal decay he was trying to fight against. Would be interesting to see Simon Spurrier follow up from there.

Thanks for the reminder, Huntsman Spider. Truly memorable (IMHO):

    Nope.
    It’s The Punisher’s symbol, period.

Thanks. Yeah, it's the thieving racists who suck, not him. Marvel/Disney might have other views on this sadly. Remember that cartoon frog that became a popular racist symbol and was killed off by his creator? I fear this may happen to the punisher and the skull.

Pepe the Frog? Yeah, I'm hoping that doesn't happen to the Punisher, either. I would say, though, it's long past time Marvel/Disney spoke up against these people coopting the Punisher's symbol and character to justify and legitimize their own violence.

    Boo. Cap is boring. Boo.

And as mentioned above Cap is a superhuman who has about as much to fear from some random criminal with a gun as Superman.

Actually, IIRC, Outlaw didn't stop because he was going after low level guys, so much as the people cheering him on were Right Wing douchebags that would support Castle et all.

    Minor difference, just sayin'

Thanks for the refresher. Yeah, I could see that souring him on the whole thing, since they weren't so much cheering for the elimination of criminals as "cleansing" the country of so-called inferiors.

It would be nice if they introduced a Punisher character who targeted only corporate bastards or head honchos, like those who unleashed the opioid crisis

As a Black person I freaking LOVE the Punisher in comics. But I can't lie and always feel if the Punisher existed in real life, how would the Black community for example feel about him? How would he feel about cop UNFAIRLY killing a Black drug dealer. Would he champion it? Heck, how would he feel about killing a group of Black drug dealers? Yea, drug dealing is illegal. But they shouldn't be killed. More importantly Black drug dealers take part in that life because of limited opportunities. Disclaimer: Not tryna generalize all Black people as drug dealers. But you get my point. Would a Punisher in real life be a far right hero?

Yea comicbook writers can write Frank anyway they want but again... What of the concept of Frank existed in real life? Would he even criticize the cops wearing his white skull?

I feel threads like this pop up once a year now. Nothing will happen. Marvel's CEO is a Trump supporter, isn't he? Seeing all of those far right extremists running around appropriating Punisher's symbol probably works better for him than Viagra and his old pinup poster of Ilse Koch does. Don't like it? Stop feeding the beast.
