Default Star Trek: Prodigy - Janeway as a hologram!

Instead of any Prodigy talk being lost in the Star Trek: All of Them thread which is about a lot of cross talk let us open up a Prodigy thread.

It debuted 3 weeks ago and has already been renewed for a second season.

    CAST:
    Brett Gray as Dal
    Ella Purnell as Gwyn
    Jason Mantzoukas as Jankom Pog
    Angus Imrie as Zero
    Rylee Alazraqui as Rok-Tahk
    Dee Bradley Baker as Murf
    Jimmi Simpson as Drednok
    John Noble as The Diviner

Yes it is targeted at the 6-14yr old range and is a joint-venture with Nickelodeon. So this may not be for some Trek fans. Spare the thread your sad song about this "not being Trek".

    Episode 4: Dreamcatcher 11/11/2021

So the group, calling them a crew just seems odd at this point, decides to follow Janeway's advice/threat and explore the first Class-M planet they've come across.
Turns out the planet preys on your fears, manifests them as tangible. A plot thread that various Trek's have used but lets recall for the target audience this is hopefully new to them.

Should be a shock to known that Gwyn finally escapes. She feels very scorned as Dal is not living up to the idea of "under different circumstances we could've been friends". The Protostar should've been that circumstance. Now Dal will know what a "woman's scorn" is about. He uncle is on his way after all. But when he shows up will the ship be usable? (of course).

How do they get themselves out of this seemingly stranded predicament!!

Kate Mulgrew is knocking it out of the park. I missed her predatory leadership and it's fun how even a hologram version of Janeway is a cat in a room full of mice.

Just read that there’s 20 episodes but two mid-season breaks. The second half of season 1 won’t be until 2022.

20 episodes for S1, that is around late 90s type episode count for animated seasons! Heck approaching live action even.

    Episode 5

    Our "heroes" escape "MurderPlanet".
Gwyn seems much more cemented as part of the team/crew after being left to die.
The Protostar uses it's secret drive for the first time...which is an actual protostar (lots of questions on that one). Ships name isn't just catchy it's part of the actual design!! More questions.

    Anyone else watch yet?

    Just did.

Needs less Purple Will Smith, but otherwise enjoying it.

and yet more confirmation that the feds are unionized mad scientists.

I have just done a binge of the back half of Season 1, up through episode 19-Supernova pt.1.
Sitting on go for the season finale tomorrow.
While I liked the first half and found it passable for its intended age I feel the story has ramped up to a bit more, anyone else? It isn't some deep dive mind you or perhaps I'm reading too much into the Easter eggs(like Janeway mentioning being turned into a giant salamander).

With the way Supernova pt 1 ended on that cliffhanger and the turmoil going on it is bound to give The Battle of Wolf 359 a run for its money in the Starfleet annals.
I feel bad for Dal finding out about Starfleets rule on Augments then his total hero attitude toward saving his friends/crew.

Who else has caught up and ready for the season finale tomorrow and your thoughts?

Finished Season 1 thought it was great not as good as SNW but very close. Looking forward to season 2.

Dal's willingness to die for his friends and Starfleet an organization that would reject him for who he is showed imminence growth since episode not since Nog has a character shown this much growth IMO.

I finished S1 earlier today as well. I'm a bit surprised that the alien mech would allow access to the mechanism that ultimately saved the situation. spoilers:
The Protostar was self-destructed by Janeway holo, ceasing the corrupting signal that infected Starfleet ships to destroy one another.
    end of spoilers

There as got to be a way that Gwyn is back for next season. Dal being allowed to join Janeway in the capacity he has is a BIG change in Starfeet policy. I'll be curious to see if that is ever touched upon in a live action show. Zero's sleek new body design is very polished and Starfleet.

Looking forward to S2 when that point comes. I've not heard word but assume a S2 is very likely.

The series got greenlit with a 40 episodes 2 seasons order so season 2 is guaranteed.

I'm sure I likely read that but it has been so long since pre-production to the conclusion of S1 that I just forgot that was the initial episode order.
    Good to be reminded.

A small recap of what transpired in this second half of S1…
Heavy spoiler so mark the following text...

The gang finally reached the outer limits of the Alpha Quantrant where they board a relay station. Suddenly and without explanation, the station blows itself up with Dal and the others barely escaping.
Gwyn regain her memories (who had lost after seeing Zero’s true form in the mid finale episode) and reveals that her father had installed a special weapon on board the Protostar which can bring the Federation on its knees upon activation.
After a investigation, they discover a mechanism in a chamber just below the bridge, so well stealth protected that even Holo-Janeway wasn’t aware of it this entire time. This Living Construct as it was nicknamed, cannot be removed even with Borg expertise so they decide to distance themselves from anything Starfleet related until they can find a way to uninstall it since it can cause severe malfunction to the point of total collapse to anything technological with Starfleet signature even the help of a mere transmission.
Meanwhile, the real Katherine Janeway, commanding the U.S.S Dauntless, recovers the Diviner which later is brought back to health. Unknown to her knowledge, these events are being monitored by Trill ensign Ascencia who’s in reality is another Solum known as the Vidicator, who had infiltrated the Federation so she can prevent First Contact with her home world. Both she and the Diviner manage to incapacite Janeway.
After many mishaps in which, Dal’s true origin as an Augment is revealed, the Protostar is encountered by the Dauntless. During the incident, Dal and the real Janeway experience a mind transfer. During her time in Dal’s body she uncovers the true benevolent intentions of the gang and the whereabouts of captain Chakotey and decides to become their ally. Sadly, after recovering her body back during a very risky operation, she finds herself in the brig since Dal was not very convicing in her absence.
After a great ordeal, the Protostar is surrounded by a battalion of Federation starships. The Vidicator after a brawl with the gang which costs the life of the Diviner, manages to activate the Living Construct and infects the ships. The fleet fires upon itself and thanks to the Federation Distress Call protocols many other ships are arriving to the scene only to be infected as well. Gwyn manages to convince many non Federation species to send help but things look really dire.
The gang decides to destroy the ship in order to stop this catastrophe and they evacuate it in a shuttlecraft so they can blow it up while it goes to Proto Warp. Sadly, thanks to the Living Construct’s influence on many of the ship’s systems, the auto destruct sequence must be activated manually which means someone must make the ultimate sacrifice. Holo Janeway decides to remain on the ship. The explosion of the Protostar while being in Proto Warp causes a rift in the space time continuum that leads into a parallel future.
One month later, the Federation uncovers a transmition originated by the rift which reveals the survival of captain Chakotey. Janeway decides to lead the rescue operation. The gang finally manages to reach Earth and are put under Janeway’s guidance except Gwyn who’s deciding to go to present day Solum in order to prevent the upcoming crisis with other means.
Janeway reveals to the gang the first mass production Protostar Class ship which presumably they are going to use with Janeway as captain in their mission to rescue
    Chakotey.
