Correct. The writers could easily make it work.

Just as The Phoenix Saga and The Dark Phoenix Saga are complex storylines with multiple things happening at the same time, the writers shifted things around and made it work with (5) and then (4) parts, equaling 9 episodes in total.

All we really have to go on is the funko pop toy announcement. For all we know, Maddie could show up in the last few seconds of the season in a cliffhanger moment after a bunch of setup stories.

I don't know, I think the writers should be careful with the Goblin Queen, because she is a non-sense character who just makes things more convoluted. Really characters like Goblin Queen and Stryfe are characters who represent the worst aspects the overindulgences of comic books.

I don't think clones are really that complicated tbh.

Madelyne and Stryfe do have some convoluted parts in their stories, but adaptations can easily streamline that into just "they're clones of Jean and Cable".

Yeah its the orgins and retcons that made it convoluted especially since those origins were changed years later from what their creators intended. If there is a pan to adapt them from the start, then all the complicated nonsense that came from the retcons can be avoided

I think it's when you say ''Jean Gray was replaced by a clone and no one noticed, because Maddie is that good of an actor'', that's when you lose people.

I remember back in the 90s, the Lois and Clark TV show jumped the shark when Lois was revealed to be a clone. People don't like these clone plot twists, it's why people hated the Clone Saga over the Spider-Man books. Clones are fine if they are not used for plot twists.

but why are you assuming they are gonna reveal that Maddie is going to be introduced as a Jean replacement? You are going the convoluted route with her. I dont beleive Jean will be missing and/or presumed dead wtih Maddie coming on to take her place. More than likely the two will co-exist with Maddie being introduced as an evil clone that Sinister created. The cartoon cant and most likely wont try to do exactly what the comics did which again itself was not the original intent

That's fine, as long as there is no plot twist and Maddie is just an evil Jean Grey clone working for Sinister right off the bat.

enh, don't need to have a character be a full replacement to have the character be an imposter.

I don't think the Jean/Maddie storyline was resolved in a satisfactory way. And if it's to be reused in the animated series, it might be best if the writers come up with a better conclusion than Maddie turns evil, Scott goes back to Jean, and Cyclops and Jean raise Nathan. It would be an interesting twist if Scott come to love Maddie for herself, rather than just being a close of Jean, before the big reveal. IMHO in the original plot, Scott and Maddie never had a real confrontation (after he left her for Jean) about their feelings. Not a deep one anyone. Can anyone recall otherwise?

I agree. Marvel almost ruined Spider-Man over the clone nonsense but they were strangely prescient when it came to Cable and Stryfe since Stryfe was supposed to be the real son and Cable his clone but Marvel feared that nobody would care about Cable if he was a clone. So they swapped roles. I don't think the general public feels much connection to clones and revealing that a long-term character has always been a clone is a surefire way to eradicate all interest in a character.
