I think it'd be easier, and better, to just jump ahead a hundred years or so to a jedi council run by Baby Yoda and go from there.

I think it’s only “easier” in the sense that the easy choices to make for a post-ST story are the types of decisions and priorities that LFL doesn’t want to make.

You *can* do something better with Rey, Finn, Poe and Kylo… but only if they recognize that TLJ, the one film fo the three they actually prize and defend, is the exact opposite of what they need to do and how they need to think: that Finn’s more of the prize character among them, that Rey needs a rougher personality without any interest in Kylo/Ben, and that “Ben” needs to be treated as a monster like Jack the Ripper.

You *can* undo much of the harm done to Luke… but only if they recognize that he needs to have students who survived Ben, and probably have a few people posit that he was mentally manipulated by Palpatine to end up so pathetic.

You *can* reinvigorate that era… but only if you’re willing to admit that TLJ was bad, and every decision inside and around it was bad.

Just ignoring it the better choice, there are people who enjoy those films so just moving on past them doesn't hurt those fans.

In that case The Old Republic is a better setting than The High Republic. The thing is, when most franchises run out of steam...they go back to the beginning.

Star Trek ran out of steam...and went back to the beginning.

Dr Who ran out of steam....and went back to the beginning.

Aliens ran out of steam....and went back to the beginning.

Terminator ran out of steam...and went back to the beginning.

Indiana Jones ran out of steam....and is rumored to be going back to the beginning.

If Star Wars is running out of steam then there is a good chance they go back to the beginning. The Old Republic is as far back as you can get

Aye, but most of them have low enough standards that a pretty white boy who’s sad would cover most of their desires, and they clearly don’t care that much about smart writing…

…so it’s not like they’d be driven away by giving Finn a good story, fixing Rey, or properly recontextualizing Kylo.

And there were clearly a lot more Rey and Finn fans who left the ST when those characters were screwed over than Reylo fans who would be driven away by having Kylo’s character clarified.

If someone likes a shitty fan fiction romance, then 9 times out of 10 they’re still going to like better stories to. Liking shit doesn’t mean they can’t stand quality. TFA made a 1/3rd more money than TLJ, and a larger percentage of TLJ’s audience stuck around for TROS.

They're just not worth the time to fix. Just start with a clean pallet and do better, it worked for the Mandalorian so I'm betting that's the path they'll go forward with.

So the topic of the sequel characters came up in a new interview with Kennedy.

Do you mean with Dr. Who RTD becoming producer again? Or the origin retcon?

    And everyone criticized those moves

There have been rumors of bigger productions for both the High Republic and Old Republic eras, although I'm not sure what the balance between the two will be.

Origin retcon, I can see how RTD coming back feeds into that.

But....The Old Republic is already established and beloved. It's not as if they would be springing it on people for the first time. We already know the story of Revan. It would just be an adaptation. With an established blueprint to work off of (Just choose the lightside ending and make him male like 90 percent of the people who played the game) it would be much easier than starting from scratch.

Hopefully in favor of The Old Republic. Revan is a great character.

The actors don't want to return to the roles and their experiences with the franchise has not been pleasant. Unless something changes it's best to let those characters fade away
