It's not surprising he would say that. Did the man approve of anyone?

Do we ever find out her fate? In the old EU she died of old age (although she also had a a virus during the Jedi Academy trilogy which probably didn't help) but she's still alive by the time of at least the Bloodlines novel (About 5 years before the sequel trilogy).

In the same old EU Admiral Ackbar also died of old age but at the same age in the Disney canon still seemed pretty healthy, being blown out into space killed him, not old age.

EU aging was kind of weird...the book covers (even when they stopped using OT publicity photos and screencaps as references-as much as I like Drew Struzan some of the stuff was repetitive)showed kind of idealized older forms of the OT heroes that the ST didn't exactly like up to.

Then again OT ages were also weird. Obi-Wan of course, but the 40-something unmasked Vader was played by a man nearing his 80s (Sebastian Shaw).

I think by the Bloodlines era she was getting kind of sick.

There are bad decisions based on emotion, and selfish decisions that endanger an entire Galaxy.
There came a time when the Old Gods died! The Brave died with the Cunning! The Noble perished locked in battle with unleashed Evil! It was the last day for them! An ancient era was passing in fiery holocaust!

I love the meta of it. And I feel like only Tennant could have delivered that line and pulled it off. I love that the Doctor just made the opening scrawl of Star Wars canon.

    Purgirl lore!
Okay, so, I was really hoping this new galaxy would be markedly different from the usual one right? Something truly strange and exotic. And we didn't get that. But what we did get was atmosphere for days. Did anyone notice that the space whale graveyard is actually the planetary ring? And this is where the Witches come from. The planet itself is pretty basic, but it does have a really cool, primal kind of rough beauty to it. And the weird little crab people, okay they're weird but nothing beyond usual, and their clothes are pretty standard, but my god, they are a terrified group of people. Which just made the whole planet, with its corpse ring and Witch origins, even creepier. And I liked the architecture too, those old monuments were appropriately impressive and felt ancient. Didn't get what I wanted but I'm pretty damn happy with what we got.

Lars Mikkleson strutting out there and making people realize that no one else could have every portrayed Thrawn in live-action.
Hell yeah. This could have gone so poorly. I mean, Thrawn's a rather subdued, subtle guy. He's not Force choking his own men for bringing him cold coffee yknow? But Lars has the presence and the gravitas, he was intimidating without being overbearing, and the threat felt more than just implied. Glad Lars was able to sell the live action as well as he did the voice acting on Rebels.

I love how Thrawn's soldiers are probably one of the more artistic takes on Stormtrooper armor. The man can't help himself.
I think at least some of that is, I dunno, ceremonial wrappings from the Witches maybe? But no, the man cannot help himself. And how about the Chimera? How epic was that?

I'm really curious what Baylan's endgame is. Does he want to create his own order that actualizes the ideals of the Jedi but without the former Order's baggage?
His talk about history and the Republic/Empire makes me think he intends to break the cycle. And I don't know a lot about the deep lore here, but from what I know he's right. And we see it play out again in the sequels of course. So my guess, given other stuff he's said, is that he wants to erase the Jedi and Sith both and views them (probably correctly) as the main players in the Empire/Republic cycle. I don't think he's 'anti-Force' but I do think he's anti-establishment. The Jedi don't live up to their creed, the Sith are just the worst, and they keep chasing each other around, with these giant, cumbersome governments pulled behind them. I dunno if Baylan has a problem with other organizations like the Witches, but I think he definitely hopes to destroy the Republic and Empire, Jedi and Sith, so utterly the galaxy can finally break free from their endless power struggle. And he thinks something on Peridea can achieve that, so he used Morgan and her hunt for Thrawn to get there.

Odd that his own apprentice doesn't know what his story is, or what his goals are. But Baylan had to explain it all to someone, so the audience could hear it.

Wonder if the Father/Son/Daughter is gonna show up after all? Feels like they'd be appropriate, here.

How did these bandits end up on the planet? They seem to have some high-spec armor for bandits.
Seems that this galaxy, and the people who inhabit it, have been around far longer so it stands to reason they'd have some better technology. These guys were capable of intergalactic travel (even if hitchhiking) so long ago, even the Jedi only remember it as fairy tales for Younglings. Even if the whole place has fallen to rot and decline, they probably still have some crazy tech scattered about. If bandits are this well armored, a real military force (if such exists) must be truly scary.

I wonder why the Witches came to the standard galaxy in the first place? Wonder why anyone did?

Ah, so this is the part of the Star Wars story where the cute and goofy natives show up.
    Almost like clockwork.

EZRA!!! Man, it was nice to see him again. And he really felt like an older version of himself.
In the end, I'm glad he didn't end up following Thrawn. We already did Dark Ezra once, and I feel like you're not really a Jedi until you've exiled yourself for a few years. No idea what the actor's name is, but he did a damn fine job, and looks so much like the cartoon its almost uncanny.

I keep saying this each week, but I fucking love this show.

Thrawn does kill his own men in both canons (In Heir for botching a capture of Luke, and in Rebels for sloppy speeder bike inspection) but it's fairly rare and he kind of 'hears them out' in both cases.

But that punishment is typically reserved for either pure incompetence or a failure to own up to one's failures. In Heir he promotes someone who failed because the attempt was innovative despite not working, and the guy didn't try to shift blame elsewhere. Funny thing is that the West End RPG has a follow up report written by that guy about his attempts to beat the unbeatable gambit.
    Dark does not mean deep.
