Back in the late 1980's there was a big unique moment we as fans always will remember. In 1990 the Grammy Awards were about to name the 1st ever Hard Rock/Heavy Metal Award. They were pushing heavy metal into this category for the 1st time and the artists nominated were Metallica , Janes Addiction , Alice Cooper and....Jethro Tull. Now the name itself sounds like a hard rock/heavy metal name at the end right ? Well...you'd be wrong as Tull played a flute and had more folk/soft rock style band for years !

Its one of the rare moments where the very awards people didn't seem to listen to who they nominated or even cared to. Almost everyone who watched this awards then will tell you...Metallica was thought to be winning it. Jethro Tull's management told them as much they wouldn't win. Yet they did win and the egg was on the face of the awards then. The Grammy's seeing how much of an embarrassment they had with it ; quickly separated the awards for next year. Knowing this was one thing they would never live down. (every year it comes up for the Grammy's)

Now there have been other instances for complete foolish moves in music and not realizing how something looks. But this past week we had 2 comical moments. One where an artist released a music video that was trying to recapture a youthful late 1990's vibe with rap/metal genre and an awards show where they completely didn't see how rock fans had been treating an artist for 2021.

Lets go to ....Kid Rock and Weird Al Yankovic.

Now I enjoy a few Kid Rock songs and his older stuff off Devil Without a Cause is really good. Also the song "American Bada---" and more. His song "Picture" is also a nice country song with Sheryl Crow as well.

But its what we saw this past week that has had many people laughing so hard and tweeting Weird Al over it that made it funny. Kid Rock released a song where he literally rages at millennials , left wing media and more in "Don't Tell Me How to Live". The song is from 2016 by country/rock artist Monster Truck and KR goes into his old style rap/metal with him trying to be as edgy as possible.

What fails is Kid Rock was a late 20's artist who was edgy and cool. He was fresh , young and angry with his Bawtidaba song and I Am the Bullgod. Now he's 50 years old and seems like an old grandfather in a rage trying to be as cool as he once was. The entire video is comical gold and made fans believe it was Weird Al with the insane swearing near every line , the constant middle fingers and riding a huge middle finger type ship.

Rock had no idea how silly this concept would look all while raging as Monster Truck sings his "DON'T TELL ME HOW TO LIVE" line. You have to feel for Monster Truck who has a solid song from 2016 by itself. Now has a guy throwing up middle fingers in every moment to try and look cool in today's era.

Weird Al has been thanking people for the comparison of course but correcting them. That no...he did not parody Kid Rock. This is the actual guy. Imagine being an artist for years and now having the very audience believe ...your a parody of yourself ? That is a disconnect at an epic degree.....

The American Music Awards brag they are an awards voted on by fans , album sales and more factored in etc. But its clear this one was a disconnect with the audience they claim to be about.

Machine Gun Kelly who has his rap career basically really end with little reaction it seems became a rock star and go into this type of music. Of course his move to this was one where he pissed off the very rock audience by dissing Slipknot. This had audiences in 2021 during shows throw things at him , boo him off stage and turn their backs during spots.

Given all these reactions how exactly he was nominated for an award for Favorite Rock Artist is one of those head scratching moments. What made it even more comical was that he faced Foo Fighters (who is beloved and older statesmen of this) , ATR and other bands. So in this your believing that like Jethro Tull the AMA's aren't gonna do the Grammy's. But....they did.

In winning Machine Gun Kelly proclaimed Rock was Back. So its back to people throwing crap at folks on stage ? Turning their backs and booing ? Because not only did this make no sense it showed the awards ceremony having a disconnect with audience involved. Not seeing what has played out in 2021 shows at times.

Both instances happened in a week. From 2 artists and its one of the funniest things in music we will see in a week musically I'm sure at same period.
