Solo actually predates Cable by a few years (well, he was after Christopher Summers was born, but before he became Cable). Solo was one of Todd McFarlane’s creations in 1986.

(I mean it wasn’t the 90s, but it was one of Image’s big guns, so there’s some provenance for 90s gun/pouch nonsense.)

I would have guessed Liefeld, in the Cable, Garrison Kane, Deadpool, Shatterstar legacy.

McFarlane and Liefeld weren't that dissimilar.

Even Spawn's original outfit had pouches and it wasn't uncommon for him to use big gunbs. Also one of Spawn's earliest major enemies was basically mafia Cable except bigger and balder, and more cyborg-er (another of Spawn's earliest foes was a gorilla... except it was a cyborg!)

Never quite understood why Cable carried ammo pouches and wore bandoliers and so on when his guns were usually energy weapons. Are those just spare battery pouches for a really energy-inefficient weapon?

Beads, c'mon, you know EXACTLY why.

It was to hype up the Black Widow movie.

You think Cable keeps ammo in those pouches?

No way. That's where he keeps his snacks. If you get stranded on an island with Cable, you can eat well for months.

Every single one of the villains is carrying some kind of monster gun, despite their powers.

Every single one of them has the exact same expression on their face.

...look at that stupid crap that Hobgoblin is holding, who thought that looked at all logical? Nope, just BIG so everyone looking at the picture can see it despite Hobgoblin being quite far back.

Electro with those weird gun-clusters on his hands looks like a damn fool. Doctor Doom typically has a Broomhandle Mauser in a holster on his belt, which he only uses to dispatch incompetent lackeys and unworthy opponents, and that is pure class.

Indeed. That image will forever be scarred in my memories 'till the end of time (XD)

Really, if any of the Sinister Six were going to try to overcompensate with giant sized "bad ass" guns, it make sense that it's Electro.
