They were just new team members. Scott was still there and the others would show up eventually like Beast too. Jean's death was overwritten by Bryne and she later returned to the team. The X-Men roster can change from time to time, like the Avengers. I wouldn't call any iteration of the Avengers a legacy title. Stan and Jack changed the roster all the time.

Differentiating spinoffs from series where someone takes the name of another character is an interesting challenge.
I wonder if the Human Torch counts.

Yes but LotR's had Bilbo, Gandalf and Gollum from the Hobbit that carried over to LotR's (bookwise Legolas wasn't in The Hobbit). I can see Gandalf as sort of a Prof. X/Cyclops. Originally Posted by Iron Maiden

I think Adam Park from Power Rangers would count. He replaced Zack as the Black Ranger and went on to outlast his predecessor's tenure on the show.
