Sometimes it depends on the story.

Superheroes with their colorful outfits may be better in color, but there are some styles of stories that can be just as effective (if not more so) when told in black-&-white.

I prefer painted colors. When handled by the right artist they are amazing.

I like painted comics if it suits the story. One of my favorites is artists in that style is Alex Maleev. If it is a story that has lots of mayhem and typical superhero slugfests then digital is fine. Horror books can either go B/W or painted. Or both.

If it's highly detailed art, I prefer B&W. If it's actiony/manga-esque art I prefer digital coloring and effects (odd, considering most manga is B&W). If I have to have color in detailed art I prefer the old newsprint paper vs glossy, coloring is secondary to the effect of color on the page (Jim Lee on newsprint vs glossy paper, newsprint makes the lines look more real/drawn-on than the glossy paper, at least in my opinion). Some artists are better painters than artists, and the coloring can impact that. Guess I take it on a case-by-case basis, though.

It depends which method best fits the story and art style but it's digital colouring for me usually.
