    Default Say what you will about 90’s comics, but...

    It was the last decade where new characters could be introduced on mass. Bane, Doomsday, Harley Quinn, Lobo.

    Lobo was 80's but I tend to agree with your point. The 80's and 90's were great for DC introducing new characters that stuck around.

    Didio kind of stifled that by dragging characters back to the Silver Age and having little use for legacy characters. There was a mini explosion in the mid-00's, too, but most were just young derivatives of existing characters and have since disappeared.

    The New 52 on has given quite a few new characters but a lot are gone already. Whether the rest stick is anyone's guess.

    "I WILL MIX THE ASHES OF YOUR BONES WITH SALT AND USE THEM TO ENSURE THE EARTH THE TEMPLARS TILLED NEVER BEARS FRUIT AGAIN!"

    "*sigh* I hoped it was for the miracle."

    Dan Watters' Azrael was incredible, a constant delight and perhaps too good for this world (but not the Forth). For the love of St. Dumas, DC, give us more!!!

    1990s also gave us the Bloodlines crossover-event arc in DC's annuals and such characters as:
    * Anima
    * Ballistic
    * Cardinal Sin
    * Edge
    * Gunfire
    * Hook
    * Jamm
    * Krag
    * Layla
    * Loose Cannon
    * Myriad
    * Pax
    * Prism
    * Razorsharp
    * Terrorsmith
    among others.
    As to whether they were memorable or not, YMMV . . .

    How can you make a list of Bloodlines characters and not include Hitman, arguably the only character from that crossover that actually lasted?
    Last Read: Aquaman & The Flash: Voidsong

    Monthly Pull List: Alan Scott: The Green Lantern, Birds of Prey, Daredevil, Geiger, Green Arrow, Justice Ducks, Justice Society of America, Negaduck, Nightwing, Phantom Road, Shazam!, Suicide Squad: Dream Team, Thundercats, Titans

    Hitman says HI.

    Loose Cannon just had an ongoing under New Age Heroes.
    Razorsharp and Pack Rats had a mini.
    Gunfire and Anima had books.
    Anima is still being used from time to time.

    A LOT of characters got derailed by Dan.

    Vertigo wasn't afraid to experiment with controversial ideas in a way Marvel wasn't. A lot of things like Black Label and Marvel's Max line owe their origins to Vertigo.

    That's sad. Two of my favorites were...

    I never said ALL the characters introduced in Bloodlines were forgettable, and I didn't say they never appeared elsewhere later on.

    And quite a few were used as the mean-hearted, needless cannon fodder body count courtesy Geoff Johns in Infinite Crisis.

    1993 was a pretty **** year for DC's main titles

    Knightfall
    Bloodlines
    Death of Superman
    Judgement Day
    Emerald Twilight

    But nevertheless it was a fantastic decade for the company, and DC hasn't been as consistently as good as it had been since the end of the 90s.

    You may not have liked some of those stories but they did give us characters like Steel, Superboy, Kyle Rayner, and Dick Grayson as Batman for a short while.

    And everything because he wanted Barry Allen back.

    From the moment Barry Allen returned, everything (or at least most part) it went down to the drain.

    For a moment I had thought of the other crossover where hal jordan became the Spectre or even, the one than Alan Moore wrote for Rob Liefeld. ANd then I remember the Justice League corssovers with that title.

    I loved the 90's era of DC!
    They were really just throwing stuff at the wall to see what stuck.
    Young Heroes in Love
    Hourman
    Martian Manhunter
    Major Bummer
    Chronos
    Power of Shazam
    Starman
    Hitman

    The Bat titles and Superman books were BOTH rock solid (IMO, neither have been have consistent since).
    Wally as the Flash was still kicking arse: Waid, then Johns both created their reps writing the title.
    Peter David made people take notice of Aquaman for the first time in a decade.

    We were given legacy characters:
    Kyle
    Connor
    Conner
    Cissie
    Bart

    We had stuff like Elseworlds and Vertigo all firing on all cylinders.

    Yes, the 90's gave us a lot of dodgy stuff (shiny variants on every book, the IMAGE style over substance reigned for a while too) but I loved the creativity that was going on.
    Yes there were misses, (Manhunter and Fate revamps spring to mind) but there was a feeling of anything worth while was given a shot.

    The majority won't agree, but there were a few new characters that came after the '90s that were quite interesting. Two of my favorites were...

    1. Captain Kilina

    2. Frankie Moxon

    I know, right?! Who could ever forget Jesse Custer (Preacher)...

    In agreement with you about both GLKyle & DickBats, their stories were interesting and kept my attention (XD)

    But don't forget about No Man's Land, which introduced Harley Quinn into the main DCU (LOL):
