What separates The Fisherman from The Scavenger in terms of abilities and motivation?
To me this is a major problem with how the character is being handled. Today majority of comic book writers are either progressive or at least liberal so on principle they think that monarchy is wrong. And I think this is the main reason why we get only "Arthur tries to get back his throne" or "Arthur loses his throne" stories. Majority of writers today don't know how to write "Arthur is a king" story because to them someone being a king is fundamentally wrong, a hero should not be a monarch. Monarch to them is evil tyrant.
Maybe I'm forgetting something, but I think that Parker didn't use Manta and Orm in his run.
Agreed, When a writer lets his personal political leanings dictate outlooks for fantasy characters, sorry to say he is not fit for purpose. This is fantasy, comics should be free from politics, we are bombed daily with politics, be it on social media, Tv etc I read comics to indulge in a fantasy world not to get more politics. No wonder more people are resorting to manga. A good writer should be able to write stories about issues he personally don't agree with.
Parkers didn't use them, maybe that is why he had a solid run with good sales, because he kept the winning formula of Johns, Arthur and Mera front & centre while at the same time doing something different without the usual villain popping out. I wish for some writers not just on Aquaman, that instead of having heroes react to villains, go after them, to see the villain on the run. Because with those powers I would be the hunter not the hunted.
Fisherman is armed with a weaponised fishing rod and lures that release poison gas. Scavenger doesn’t really have a signature weapon as such, just generic blasters and the like (I think).
They both specialise in ocean-related crimes but generally Fisherman focuses on robbery while Scavenger is more diverse (again I think).
Finally Fisherman has more of a grudge against Arthur (nowhere near that of Black Manta but still). Scavenger is all-business.
You are 100% right, but you have no idea how dumb are certain lunatics in the USA, those on the right are proud to be stupid, those on the left support outdated policies common in Europe in the 50's & 60's. They would shoot your Queen on spot if they could. Comics are mostly written by left leaning people, who cannot keep their political views from being brought up in comics. It is a situation that won't change in the immediate future and one of the reasons why more people are dropping comics. You read comics as a way of escapism not to find more politics than what you are surrounded with.

Does anyone know what the first Post-Crisis continuity Aquaman comic was? The 1986 mini series with the blue and white suit, the 1988 Special, or the Legend of Aquaman 1989 one-shot and mini? Didn't know where else to ask this...
It boils down to what that EDITOR wants and allows.
You hire someone who hates the character you get 5 years of Coates Black Panther run that is praised more for propping up Storm while it trashed Black Panther. The current writer is NOT doing that.
However you don't get that when your editor doesn't allow that type of story.
So maybe a question needs to be asked of the editors why these stories keep happening.
Because some of the writer yall bash for this are not doing this at other companies. So if it's not the writer then who is it?
Aquaman's editor is one of those, she is a declared SJW, fine with that, in your personal life you do what you want, in comics keep that out. Will quote from what the Aquaverse on twitter posted a few days ago about the latest Aquaman issue - Review: AQUAMAN: THE BECOMING #5: "This isn't a Jackson Hyde story. Its a story about Xebel oppression heavily drawn from modern socio-political strife where the main character is almost entirely inconsequential to the story."
Besides it is not just editors, KSD (who's run I loved on Aquaman except some takes) goes around saying "If you don't like my politics don't buy my comics"
