The black smoke effect fits corrupted Wanda more than just the red we saw in the film.

That's probably why. In WandaVision there was a controversy because you could really argue about how bad she was.
The movie... everyone admits she does terrible things and even people who hate her admit it's out of character; that's why they have this book that magically turns people evil. So there's just nothing to argue about.
If they had gone with the original plan and had her get corrupted over the course of the film, there might be more to argue about, but here it all happens offscreen, so it's hard to take seriously.
I mean there was never any doubt about it. It's entertaining and breaks away from the typical MCU formula. Personal grievances don't change that.
WV and MoM also both prove how good of an actress Elizabeth Olsen and what she has done to sell the character to millions of people. Marvel has found a goldmine there and Im excited to see how it continues. Clearly we are into another phase where everybody does their own thing and deals with their own problems. The big threat that will force all these different people back together to fight it will come but until then we can explore all these different themes.

MCU films do well financially no matter how good or bad they are. Which is why they can now make scripts a huge mess and still profit. Or do crappy CGI in their shows and still profit. They seem to be trying less now.
And the movie also stars Benedict Cumberbatch and he has a mega fanbase. That with the super popularity of the MCU, it just drives things more. It'll continue until people get tired of it. Some are already, but not nearly enough for it to cost Disney/Marvel atm.

Oh it will absolutely get less polished. If they don't even have to follow their own canon and can get the big bucks than it'll send the message to them that they don't have to try as much. They are a huge company. They are all about cutting corners.

It's just Wanda's rotten luck that the MCU breaks from the formula by making the audience expect a team-up and never giving it to them, so anyone who wanted to see her team up with Doctor Strange gets disappointed.
I still think the lack of a team-up, more than Wanda going bad, is the reason for the lower-than-usual audience rating. That and the fact that there isn't even a real Strange vs. Wanda fight. That's not so much breaking from the formula as denying the audience what they wanted to see.
It's how she goes bad too, just not built up enough. Like sure you understand she was reading the Darkhold and is now evil. But she went from reading to full tilt. So they should have given her a solo or a second season so that could play out well, with all the Wundgare, Chthon and chaos magic lore fleshed out. And kept it out of a Strange film, where he never gets his Vishanti lore nor SS title.

That's just the writer's decision, though. Even if you assume Wanda is more powerful than Strange -- hard to believe since she uses such a limited power set in this movie -- he could go up against her by using his superior training, knowledge of more spells, etc.
Comics Wanda has fought characters more powerful than she is all the time. If Batman can fight Superman then Strange can fight Wanda one-on-one if they want.
The writer has said that they changed it from the original plan, where she would have gone bad later in the film, because they felt it would be more fun to have her be the antagonist for the whole movie instead of introducing another villain (Nightmare, probably) and then having her go bad later.
I'm not even sure if the original plan would have been better for Wanda, since it would have caused her to maybe be a villain in some other project and people would take her more seriously as someone who could be a permanent villain, while this way no one thinks it'll be permanent. But it would have been a better story, because we would have actually seen it happen and we'd have seen her get to know Strange before attacking him.

Yeah I know they changed it and all of that. But they really should not have had her in this. That was the answer. Give her a solo or a second season. Let her be fleshed out. Let Stephen get his time to be fleshed out (because he's had even less time than her), then have them come together for whatever.
She likely would have eventually been the villain anyway. It's pretty certain they were always building up to the possession storyline. That they yanked from both Nights and AD. But, what we got as a result is a shitty story. AD was always shitty, they ended up making it worse somehow. Nights was actually good, but they only take from it the possession part. They then throw in fan service on top of that.
Because it's an easier sell. They don't have to try as much and they get money.
