I think it depends on the flaws and the execution.

Like Priest's T'Challa was hyper-competent, charismatic, and super effective and deadly when he needed to be despite how much he had to sacrifice for the sake of Wakanda or his own purposes and the emotional cost that enacted on him and his loved ones.

Coates' T'Challa just seemed too passive, reactive, and and conciliatory when he didn't need to be.

Basically this. No point in going back and forth with it. The fact that he asked if I don't like a flawed T'Challa was it for me

This sums it up. Maybe that is the only way Coates knows how to write male characters. Regardless of his intentions, T'Challa, whether people like it or not, is none of those things.

My only other frame of reference with Coates is how he wrote Captain America.

Steve didn't come off that passive or useless but it definitely felt like he was taking a backseat to the supporting cast (made up mostly of women).
