Yeah man that's Pretty toxic. Notice how in swad how T'Challa said they are all soldiers of the Panther GOD and not GODDESS? Clearly T'Challa is sexist and hates females. I keba why wasn't Storm giving the speech? And Notice how he is forcing all Wakandans to fight the skrulls, throwing his power around in their face. Oppressing them to fight his battle's and maintain his power... Disgusting. I want a book about the side characters check his privilege and tell him he ain't isht and home accepting that'

I think T'Challa has been capeless since 2010 other than it appearing for decoration like in New Avengers and Ridley's #1 and the recent X-Men Red.

T'Challa has been lacking in the drip department for years now. The Priest era habit and the Rocafort habit especially the one with the cape both remain T'Challa's best looks. He had a few good looks in between like in SWAD but nothing that really stood out like those two.




Although I'm still not a huge fan of the mask, the rest of his Avengers suit grew on me.

As bad as this story was, the art was beautiful

The story was really only ruined by the ending. Everything leading up to it wasn't too bad. Doom need to lose his money, have his Castle destroyed, and gotten here ever in loving isht kicked out of him by Tchalla, to the point that he mutilates his face further and he tells Doom if he even LOOKS in Wakandas direction again he will kill him, then he follows this up by exploding the mystic VB suit he was wearing. And let's him know he can do the Same to the other VB he stole and he better return it YESTERDAY. That would of kinda Made up for the run

Pretty stunned reading this thread. This black panther book is one of my favorites out right now. I also enjoyed the early Coates run as well. I have a feeling people in this group don't like the sociological writing. I love it though, really challenges and tests Black Panthers character in meaningful ways and I thi think the past several years have been some of the best afrofuturistic world building we've seen in fiction in a while.

The lips on mask thing is a Rocafort quirk for some reason. Look up images of the first Red Hood and the Outlaws run which was drawn by him, he also draws the typical faceless Red Hood helmet with visible lips.

Ehhhh I wouldn't really call this sociological. Its very simple and basic, everything about it is basically just "the king sucks"

There is no greater complexity or nuance to this. Exemplified by the fact absolutely no one takes responsibility for anything bad they do. Folsade forcibly activates emergency powers and uses the secret police to target T'Challa as basically a show of authority but the narrative doesn't go into the dark morality such an action is.

Instead Akili takes over, absolving her of any blame, and then Folsade blames T'Challa for everything happening despite the fact she's at least partly responsible for this mess.

There's nothing intelligent to be found here, its mostly just angst and sadness masquerading for complexity and nuance.

As great as it would be on paper if it was the case, Wakanda is not Gotham.

All that mythos (good and bad, and boy have there been stinkers) building with Gotham happened over decades with A) a market that supported a lot more books than the one now, B) shamelessly used the IP’s main star/stars to bolster said books instead of crapping on them from a great height

Trying to speed run that into less than a decade while actively crapping on T’Challa does not add up to a happy ending for these franchise plans
