Liberty Legion is another cool period team ... and there was definitely some cross-over. I really enjoyed that 70th Anniversary Patriot mini-series.

Not me. I don't care much for the kids (unless as part of the Kid Commandos, of course, and I'd love Namora to join them), but I love the BIG 3 fighting alongside great characters such as Union Jack (my favorite), Spitfire, the Blazing Skull, Aarkus, the original Vision, Miss America and others.

Although the majority won't agree, I've always thought that Union Jack was quite an intriguing chap

In agreement with everything you mentioned, especially about Hammond. Alex Ross did much better with him during MARVELS (1994):

Ross always portrays a very powerful looking, even dangerous (though still heroic) Hammond. No one else can touch his Human Torch. He does it so well, you can even tell right away if he's depicting Jim Hammond as the Torch or Johnny Storm.
