An issue is that they are hyper-focusing on tearing down his wealth because "rich people bad".

Like yeah the guy's got privilege, so you want him to be poor or something? Its like people forget money is a resource to be used regardless of all the terrible billionaires in real life.

Tony Stark is NOT Elon Musk so stop fixating on it.

Its this shit that makes Batman comics annoying and is what currently ruined the Black Panther line.

Spider-Man's poor, or at most working/barely middle-class (usually), and he's commonly held up as the greatest superhero of the contemporary era, at least in the context of the Marvel Universe. However, your statement does remind me of a commonly circulated meme on the Internet: "All these billionaires in real life and not one of them has decided to become Batman or Iron Man." Of course, what separates Batman and Iron Man from real-world billionaires is that they both have a functional sense of altruism and responsibility, even if they sometimes don't express that in the healthiest or most reasonable of ways. To echo my earlier post here, this is where "superheroes as exemplars of what is best in us as human beings, as opposed to reflections of what is worst in us as human beings" can and should step into the picture.

That would be nice, and yeah, Tony Stark, as a character and an archetype, is what Elon Musk wishes he was and wants his fans to think he is, although if they both existed in reality, Tony wouldn't even give him the time of day. The issue, to me, is that an allegorical critique of real-world billionaires doesn't necessarily have to involve turning or making flawed but otherwise heroic characters of fiction that are also billionaires into caricatures of those real-world billionaires; that's how we end up with Tony Stark as a borderline if not outright fascist in the original Civil War storyline.

Thinking about it, for all the people complaining about Tony being a good rich person they seem to fail to notice he's an exception. A good portion of the people he fights are also varying degrees of wealthy and they actually are morally bankrupt.

Same with Batman. People complain about Batman but forget that one of the most famous DC villain is Lex Luthor is evil as shit and thats ignoring plenty of other villains like the Court of Owls who is a secret club of evil rich fucks.

Really strong talking about shit you don't know energy there.

Y'know, Franklin D. Roosevelt was often called a traitor to his class. He was born rich, raised rich, yet he was the most economically progressive President in history and the person who got the New Deal passed. There are good members of predominately evil social groups, something writers refuse to acknowledge when they use Stark as a stand-in for some billionaire they hate.

Very well said sir. People forget all the charity work and other philanthropic works he does. Although he even said his wealth feels like blood money.

It came from an old interview with RDJ and Favreau when they were doing Iron Man 2.

The way some people are, it feels like the only acceptable hero is a dirt poor fuck like Spider-Man.

Which don't get me wrong is a great character but like ya know variety is the spice of life. If every character is the same commonwealth Joe with only 5 bucks to his name that be pretty boring.

Its like I enjoy the Question because of how much Vic has to work for his victory through nothing but pure grit and deduction ability but at the same time I enjoy characters like Batman or Mr. Terrific who utilize their vast resources to conjure all sorts of solutions and equipment.

Granted I'm sure if Riri was a billionaire the people who keep ragging on Tony about it wouldn't make half as much of a deal with her.
