sure, isn't that their thesis?

that we have 2 mainstream 616 spider-men in the traditional marvel hero mould? so a third is hard to place? because the degrees of difference between them all are slighter than say, spider-noir or spider-uk?

kaine being less old skool kaine and more traditional marvel (anti) hero now doesn't help.

i get their issue. it would come up in any creative meeting about the direction of characters. what i don't get is their solution.

i think if we could show examples of how multiple iterations of the "same character" have co-existed successfully, there might be more meat there to slap marvel in the face with.

Hard to do within the marvel universe as they where defined by their stand against legacy heroes for many years. At best you have to look at street level characters in say Avengers or other teams. Super soldier serum heroes perhaps?

With DC it’s easier but they often go back and forth with editorial restrictions so consistent isn’t a common word. Batman universe characters tend to be similar and occupy the same spaces. GL clearly went to far. But it could support at least 4 heroes with the same green ring.

One problem with whatever logic Nick Lowe throws at us that we know that Marvel won’t be consistent. They only write rules like this to break them. If they come into a situation where a character they are excited for goes against this logic it won’t even be worth the paper it was printed in.

Is all planned in advance. Bad synergy there.

They couldn't have put Chasm in the game months before his debut in the comics. It also wouldn't have fit the theme, because Chasm is a seemingly going to be a villain in the comics. The solution to the synergy problem would be to not use Ben Reilly at all.

Personally, I don't think it matters if games like this end up being slightly out of date with character costumes or identities months after they're released.

You know, even if it's just a video game, it's nice that there's a universe out there where Ben is still himself.
