Ben Reilly: Spider-Man/Scarlet Spider Appreciation 2022

My biggest issue with CHASM is that the foundation is a lie. Ben is delluded.

Peter didn't cause his problem with memory loss. Sense of Self loss or what have you. The Beyond Corp did that.
What Peter is "guilty" of is not trusting the folks who made the problem to correctly fix the problem. And he's not wrong, Ben should see that regardless of whatever memory loss he's incurred.
I'm calling it bad writing. Writing the ignores logic in favor of unnecessary drama/character assassination to further 'x' plot later.

Just imagine the dynamic of his rivalry with Ben going into new territories now that Ben went full tsu-tsu brain.

If Kaine is still in contact with Aracely/Hummingbird, who was sidelined throughout the last Scarlet Spider series to protect her from post-Clone Conspiracy Ben, she could use her psychic powers to fill the chasm that is his psyche with the memories that were stolen from him by Beyond. She's technically a demigoddess or reincarnation of an Aztec deity, and she has a more-than-slight connection to the Aztec mythology's version of the underworld/afterlife, called Mictlan. Hell, this could tie into an idea I had before, with Mictlan converting Ben into its champion to punish him for tampering in the realm of life and death as the Jackal, only without most of his memories and sense of self, "Chasm" is a much more dangerous avatar than expected, which results in Kaine fighting him as Aracely's champion and (finally) beating some sense into him.

So could we assume that the ending of Ben Reilly: Scarlet Spider was editorially mandated? It didn't make much sense after the character's development that PAD was doing. And now this, it seems too much of a coincidence.
Maybe it's mandated because they don't want another Spider-hero around that could "dilute the brand" or something like that.

I think the ending of BR:SS was editorially mandated, but not for this. We had that ending, we had the weird end to Superior Spider-man (v2), Miles made a deal with Mephisto in Champions (I feel like I'm missing one). There was almost certainly a scuttled plan that all of these were leading to

Spidercide should have being the Spider-Man of Beyond and end the story with a fight between him and Peter, with Spidercide trying to stop Peter from getting in the way if Beyond's plans, and to make sure he can continue being Spider-Man.

If you want my honest opinion, you have no business being so good at drawing Spider-people and not being employed at Marvel. Alongside Cafu's work on Iron Man, this is pretty much the best OG Scarlet Spider I've seen in years.
