He says the last turn during the lead up to Death Metal was the moment where he felt like he might be done with DC because he went to all this trouble to bring her back and no one (according to him) had any interesting ideas on what to do with her. It’s amusing to me because I know there were writers like Sterling Gates who wanted to NOT do that, but never got the chance to write her so then why did he keep blocking them in favor of greenlighting more evil Kara stuff?

Didn't Grant Morrison say a while back that Didio's pitch for Supergirl in 5G involved making her an authoritatian figure? Like, had he given up by that point or did he somehow not see how leading with that idea would get him a disproportionate ammount of Evil Supergirl pitches?

...yet he kept rebooting her to the same.exact.starting point? Each writer had Kara "find herself" and wasnt he head honcho? He had the power to get the right team together, decide if she is evil or not.

Not sure why it is so hard to write her and not just make her Superman Jr.

I can believe that he had given up at that point. 5G was Didio tossing the old guard aside and trying to do a Silver Age style reboot for the DCU. Given the most popular stories featuring Superman were when he was evil (Injustice, the DCEU), I think 5G was going to embrace that to clear the way for Jon. But that may just have been Didio strong arming Morrison into helping him with the Superman side of 5G on a Mafia style “if you don’t help me here’s what’s going to happen” deal.

I can believe DiDio recurring to that strategy.
And talking about the 5G, it seems in the Future State title they have embraced the turning to evil for Damian Wayne than it was hinted for the 5G and in that title than Bendis wrote.
