I actually liked this version of the team and wish they had gotten a longer run.

Likewise, and if they'd let Winick run with it as planned it probably would have.

What were Winnick's plans that got derailed?

Winick wrote the post-Brightest Day limited series Justice League: Generation Lost, which reunited/reestablished the JLI, and he was slated to write the subsequent ongoing. But then The New 52 happened, and the book went to Dan Jurgens while Winick instead wrote the relaunched Catwoman.

I don't know how many details of the original premise have been revealed, but I know Jurgens definitely came in at the last minute, and much of what we ended up with was dictated to him by editorial. By his own admission it was a messy situation.

I didn't get to follow this line up much. The only thing I remember was the Amos Fortune story. (And the Sonar story).

    JLE #43-50! Good stuff.

Of course most people hate that run, but I love it...

I enjoy most of the JLA run post breakdowns (until Gerard Jones showed up), but I was done with JLE/I much earlier. The common thread seems to be Jones.

All I really remember about Jones' JL work is that he seemed to be trying to turn the clock backwards with his writing style, like he thought he could bring back the Bronze Age if not the Silver Age. That and his swipe at Kyle Raynor when he had Kyle guest-star in his JLA, with Tom Kalmaku and Carol Ferris challenging Kyle's right to be GL to his face and confidently predicting that Hal would be back as GL very soon.

Can't say I liked much this run. In fact, I can affirm I didn't like it. Subpar, compared to the JLA, especially Jurgens' run, which I liked quite a lot (and find it very underrated),ridden with continuity mistakes, and after a certain point, when most of the top tier characters had left, such as Aquaman, Green Lantern, and even Flash, even if temporarily, being replaced by terrible mediocre z-listers such as Maya and that lame ghost guy, whose name I can't even remember, it became just awful. Can't say it improved much when the creative team jumped over to JLA, making it very wierd. It started out OK, but then it foccused too much on the second-stringers, with Nuklon, Obsidian, and Fire with that awfully wierd relationship with Ice Maiden. Then we had El Diablo and the Yazz!

Yeah, me too! It had potential to go much further, IMHO!
