I really liked the story and while I the art wasn't bad per se, I thought that it wasn't a great fit for the character or the story. Then there was Web of Black Widow from 2019. The art by Stephen Mooney was good in the first issue but from three on, it really looked rushed. I'm convinced the editors made him hurry up and get it done so they'd have a trade ready by the time of the original release date of the movie.
Ah I see what you mean. I don't judge minis by the same standards as bigger series for some reason. Im not sure I will even completely read both of these again.

I can agree with what you are saying though. Art is really subjective but I do prefer art that leans more into the realism angle. Funnily enough the art from Mooney was exactly that.
You seem to have a better eye for quality shifts than me though. I just opened the first and last issue to compare them and you are right the art does look rushed or less detailed but I didn't notice it in my first reading.

I don't know how you guys think about it but one thing that I really liked about the Mooney art though is that the Widows had an actual athletic build. I could go on huge rant here now since it's a pet peeve of mine but I try to tame myself. If you are on a Olympic level in terms of fitness then you will also have an Olympic level body to go with it. The thing about this is that it's often applied to male characters but not female ones.
They are often just Barbie dolls instead.

I watched this movie about some female KGB spy once. Don't know the name but it was free on Amazon Prime. Anyways the actress is like a really skinny model. The parts where she seduces people are great. The parts where she beats up entire groups of trained combatants are just so absolutely unbelievable and fake.
Just look up Alicia Vikander Tomb Raider for what I expect for such a role.

Looks like Nat will appear in the new Cap series as she can be seen in the trailer for it. The negative: She's wearing the hood costume.
Tolstoy will live forever. Some people do. But that's not enough. It's not the length of a life that matters, just the depth of it. The chances we take. The paths we choose. How we go on when our hearts break. Hearts always break and so we bend with our hearts. And we sway. But in the end what matters is that we loved... and lived.

And the Mark Brooks art had her in the classic look .

In my opinion the Soska mini was also pretty much in line with what Rosenberg had established in Tales of Suspense where we saw her murdering clones left and right without hesitation, leaving Clint in total horror. Makes sense to me that she had to develop into the more heroic Natasha after her resurrection and didn't start right where she left.
To be frank (pun not intended, lol) I didn't finish it.
It's not that Natasha angrily fucking up evil people is somehow out of character or anything especially not at that time, we know resurrections tend have that effect in comics, it's more that it felt like the story almost felt like a parody with how over the top despicable the bad guys were.
It seemed a little odd that pretty much every person Natasha came across was talking in very stitled sounding conversations how much they were into a torture porn show or whatever that was and it was quite obviously just to beat the reader over the head with how justified the violence was.

It reminded me of that scene in the daredevil TV show where Frank buys some equipment in a thrift store and out of the blue and for no real reason the guy asks Frank whether he wants to buy some childporn.

I find stuff like that to be a tiresome and cheap way to justify going dark especially in connection with superhero comics where it just feels out of place even in more "grounded" street level and spy stories.

Double negative - no solicitation for her own book! Just a TPB for issues 10-15. Is it cancelled?

I liked seeing Tyger Tyger at least...and the villain twist.

Hopefully it’s just a break month between arcs.....this book is just too good to pull the plug on!!

Spider-Woman also isn't solicited, so with She-Hulk and Silk getting new ongoings maybe Marvel had to cancel other female books to not become too woke...

I also thought the twist was good and liked enough other parts like the fight with Masque or the encounters with Tasky, Zemo and Victor to overall enjoy it. And maybe it's just a coincidence but I can't help but think how Flaviano may have influenced Casagrande to some extent, as she made a similar spread of Natasha surrounded by her memories and the double page spread of Nat fighting multiple goons that Casagrande made into her trademark was also already established in the Soska mini:

    Casagrande's execution is better though.

I also remember Madame Masque implying Natasha's thighs were too big to fit into Masque's suit, which was funny .

I'm not even sure I made it that far. Maybe I'll give it another shot at Marvel unlimited at some point.

After you guys talking about it I actually read through it too again and I must say it really isn't that bad. It's very dark certainly but I don't see a problem with exploring that kind of space. I mean we are talking about Madripoor here. To quote what a wise man once said "You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy". And Natasha is one of the better characters to explore it. I also liked the interactions with Steve and Nat.
And yeah that villain twist. That person should be a super spy too or something because they definitely played everyone like a damn fiddle.

Yes! I totally dig that kind of banter. Masque being embarrassed by the thought of being defeated with "working class equipment" was also funny.

It has indeed been a really good Natasha BW book, doesn't mean #15 isn't the end of the line.
I've read all the Nat BW books since mid-2000s and the Edmonson run was the longest at 20 issues. I was a bit stunned the Mark Waid title ended at 12 issues, that came as a surprise. I thought Waid + BW coming off his DD work would be a title that went to at least #25...but alas.

Anyone with a Twitter account minding to ask Kelly Thompson if the book is cancelled or just on a hiatus? Would be appreciated.

I see the question has been asked, but KT hasn't been very active on twitter recently and has yet to answer. I can keep an eye on it and post here if she does though.
