Welcome to the threat to appreciate the lights and shadows of Magneto: the Master of Magnetism( aka Max Eisenhardt/ Erik Lehnsherr/Grey king/White Pilgrim)
known by many names, Magneto is a powerful mutant who walks on gray areas to protect his race as the master of magnetism.
“I am no hero. Merely a man who has seen and done and endured what can never be forgotten or forgiven.”
– Uncanny X-Men Vol 1 #196
"What if, instead of War, we made something else?"
- Magneto X-men Planet Size #1BiographyIf you wanted one book to summarize all that the X-Men is about in terms of character and conflict and theme, I'd have to say that "God Loves, Man Kills" was it. If you could only read one X-Men graphic novel start with that. Because for me the X-Men is not about superheroes and supervillains, it is about people, and how you deal with the challenge of life and the choices you have to make every day...That for me is why Magneto is so important. Xavier is spoke for; he has made his choices, he is a hero. Magneto is a work in progress. He is not evil. He is defined by his past. But that definition drives him to disaster. The question for him is... is he the victim of his destiny, or can he change it? Can he grow? I'm not sure, I'd like to think he can.
Chris Claremont
During his youth, he endured atrocities performed by the Nazi dictatorship in Auschwitz. After escaping, he learned at this cost of his own daughter's life that he had the mutant ability to generate and control magnetic fields, a condition that caused additional hate and fear from those who were different from him.Being a target for so long and explicitly rejecting the possibility of any harmony with humans, Magneto aimed to conquer the world to enable mutants, whom he refers to as Homo superior, to become the dominant species on Earth.
Decided to disseminate his beliefs by employing brute force, he got into direct conflict with his former ally, Professor Charles Xavier and his X-Men, mutants who shared a dream of peaceful mutant-human coexistence. His reputation as an inspirational figurehead and a dangerous threat, as the leader of the Brotherhood and the Acolytes, granted him the rule over the kingdom of Genosha, until its destruction.Magneto also had the X-Men as his allies in different occasions, expressing his intentions to try Xavier's way and even his students' perspective, by following Cyclops on Utopia.
More recently, Magneto has rejoined Professor Xavier, ending their long-time feud and helping to establish the mutant-exclusive nation on the living island of Krakoa. On Krakoa, Magneto acts as one of its most prominent figures both as part of the Quiet Council of Krakoa and as the greatest hero of mutantkind.Though usually at odds with Earth’s Super Heroes, Magneto has come to mankind’s aid on multiple occasions.
