Sounds like Judgment Day is the end of the Gillen era. I suppose the above wording leaves room for a mini-series to follow or something.

I'm not happy with this. I really enjoyed Gillen's Eternals and was hoping he would continue writing them after the Judgment Day crossover.

Right? It was easily one of the best ongoings Marvel had. Maybe we’ll get an Eternals from Hickman.

When dealing with the X-Line everything is either a human trying to kill you, or a sentinel allegory trying to kill you! Doesn't get any more creative than that I'm afraid.

Thanks for posting this interview here! I really like what Gillen says in it and I'm even sadder he's done with the Eternals.
Now I'm very curious about his (re)interpretation of Starfox/Eros and what the Eternals' new status quo will be in the Marvel Universe.

I think the four Gillen one-shots - Thanos Rising, Celestia, The Heretic and Eve of Judgment - might be collected in its own trade.

You were right. (Eve of Judgment will not be collected in this trade but Thanos Rises, Celestia, and The Heretic one-shots will be.)

Although I'm not a very big X-book fan, those with x-genes

are a far cry from actual Deviants.
I think Mutants and most 'mutates' are the results of long embedded genes from either
Deviants, or Eternals.
I think Eternals don't "breed true" (with 100 % other Eternals)
and while some other pairing may create 'demi-god' type humans, after some many distinct years those genes could probably only be stimulated by

Cosmic Rays, Gamma rays, and whatever other radiations.
so Spidey, Invisible Woman types result from stimuli.

But mutants have something, related to the Deviant gene, that is just there and will "express" either at puberty or due to additional 'stimuli'.

Ben Grimm makes an interesting case for being more of a holder of an unsuppressed Deviant gene that isn't quite an x-gene - or could be like the mutants who don't express at puberty. Didn't Lorna Dane grow to late teens before she was stimulated to have her powers?

The reasons why all these mutations and mutate-making things are so random is because thousands of years - or more, have passed from the original 'experiments' and the various interminglings.

Deviants and Eternals have probably intermixed with other hidden races over thousands of years:

Inhumans - Atlanteans - other underwater types - other 'other' types.

All this results in why no one ever dies from most radio-type exposures, they always get powers.
Because they have so much ancient weird criss crossing pheno types.

Good news, but I'm hoping they will be more interesting in the future... I think Gillen's Eternals are much more captivating than the MCU version. (Especially Sersi.)

I knew they were going to do a second Eternals movie and I hope for a third one too.

In #2, I want them to follow up on the last movie details as well as its own new great storyline.
