Azz's Ares is one of the absolute worst.
Speaking of queer villains, though, Wondy sure has a bunch of 'em. In fact, I'd argue that there are more LGBT characters in the Wonderverse than straight ones at this point. Which is ideal for such a queer icon, obviously.
Azz's Ares is hilarious. His self-insert and Diana's beloved father figure is the dude who's always represented patriarchy and violence in the mythos. Poetry.
Well yeah obviously she's gotta have some fun villain shoes. Give her those cartoon fish tank platform pumps, filled with dudes she turned into guppies after they f*cked around and found out.
Actually had no idea what Azz looked like until years after his run was over so it all kind of clicked for me, when I finally saw a picture of him, why Ares was Diana's mentor.
Fwiw, Chiang I think said that design was on his volition (not something Azzarello asked for) but I guess since Azz didn't ask to change it and ran with it...
But yeah, one of those Chiang designs that was a complete swing-and-a-miss for me.
I never cared for the old man Ares, but the blood staining his feet was an amazingly striking touch.
I love the idea! I am not even kidding. I can totally see a massively synergistic effort made by Warner Bros. Discovery for the next iteration of Wonder Woman films (after Jenkins/Gadot's Wonder Woman 3) that includes a women's shoe line inspired by Diana (Functional yet gorgeous shoes that turn heads!!), Circe (Wickedly, decadently fashionable!!), Julia Kapatelis (Comfortable, stylish, and badass!!), and Vanessa (Young, cool and fun. Like You, girl!). LOL
