    Default Honoring Carlos Pacheco

Legendary Comic Book Artist Carlos Pacheco Passes Away at 60
    https://www.superherohype.com/comics...ses-away-at-60

This year has already taken way too many giants of the comic book industry. But tragically, yet another legendary creator has left us. Carlos Pacheco, the Spanish-born illustrator whose career took off in the mid-‘90s and led to acclaimed runs on several Marvel and DC storylines, died earlier today following a battle with ALS. He was 60 years old.

    Rest in peace.

Say what you want about the writing of the X-men during the late 90's, but Pacheco delivered some excelent work for many of their covers, all in the style of it's time no less.

That X-men #72 cover in particular might be on the more minimalistic side as far as "Wolverine duels an opponent" ones go (and there have been plenty over the decades), but i really like how it suggest a dynamic fight just by how the two opponents are positioned and their bodies angled while locked in combat.
Also the absence of leaping, dramatic backrounds and angled views gives it a certain "down to earth" feel.

Of course the fight in the issue itself is much more one sided in Logan's favor than what the cover might suggest, though the artwork for it still makes it enjoyable to read, neither being too drawn out nor too brief.

His page/panel layouts and composition are dynamic and thoroughly engaging...his figures, very stylised in that 90's way and yet very natural.

This is so sad, 60 is way too young to die.

Carlos Pacheco was one of my favourite artists of all time. His X-Men, Bishop, Avengers, Fantastic Four, Superman, Arrowsmith and basically everything his pencil touched was just so beautiful. My sincerest condolences to his family.

    X-Men #62 - Opening splash.jpg

I have such fond memories of Carlos' run on adjectiveless in particular, his first issue really made my jaw drop. I was already familiar with his art from Mark Waid's Flash and the Bishop mini with John Ostrander but he took his art to a whole new level upon joining X-Men. And from there he grew from strength to strength. His depiction of many characters (Nightcrawler, Storm, Jean, Wolverine, Iceman) is one of the first that comes to mind when I think about that character.

R.I.P. He was pretty versatile and was able to adapt to changing times as evidenced by his later work on Avengers. A tragic loss.

I always liked him, especially on X-men and Avengers:Forever.

At DC he did some great art, sadly mostly on titles I didn’t like. But he did a run on Superman that was very good.

His work on the first six issues of the Cable solo series was pretty awesome…
