On January 19, The Original Drink and Draw is going to tackle Avengers 58, or as they call it, "The Best Avengers Story Of All Time!!"

Namor the Sub-Mariner, Marvel's oldest character, will have been published for 85 years in 2024. So where's my GOOD Namor anniversary ongoing, Marvel?

I'm of the opinion the design would look a lot better without the gold on the arm and hammer...but then I guess it wouldn't be "unique."

I still cringe every time I see Squirrel Girl in an Avengers lineup.

This was from a major event that was supposed to come after the Crossing, right? It got cancelled because of Heroes Reborn. I can't remember what it was supposed to be called. I'd rather have had this then that Liefield garbage.

    Peace
There were going to be 2 Avengers titles post the Crossing, regular, and Mighty, plus the regular solo monthlies. I think there was going to be an US Agent one too, but I could be mistaken.

I would have liked the original Mjölnir, but the story wasn't there yet (and I think it's still not there)

Well they had sentry and captain universe powerhouses also plus gag hero deadpool and if you have a hero that beats galactus in less then a minute and took out the hulk in seconds wouldn't you want them on the team?

To be fair, Squirrel Girl's team, the New Avengers and later U.S.Avengers (which is the team in that pic) was the Avengers C team. The ANAD Avengers and Uncanny Avengers which both contained higher profile characters were the other two (though both teams had some Avengers newbies). The teams Doreen was on were not traditional rosters at all, consisting of members from the Thunderbolts (Songbird), Young Avengers (Wiccan, Hulkling), New Mutants (Sunspot/Citizen V, Cannonball), and Great Lakes Avengers (Squirrel Girl), plus one traditional Avenger (Hawkeye), and a couple of characters introduced in Hickman's Avengers run (Rescue/Iron Patriot, POD/Enigma). Red Hulk II was an outright OC.

I had that Treasury Edition as a kid, and the back cover Kirby illustration of the marching Avengers including both Giant-Man and Yellowjacket confused the hell out of me. Always great to see Kirby draw the Avengers, though.

Love this piece. It's a revised version, not the one that actually was in the book, where Gilgamesh was in Herc's place and Captain Marvel (Monica) was not in costume.

Ah, there is no beating George Perez. And great inks by Gene Day.

It's a shame it was basically reprints. How great it'd be to read a new adventure with the cover's line-up and Jack Kirby's art? Nonetheless, it's still a great piece of art.

    Peace
