"The Marvel EIC Chair has a certain curse that goes along with it: it tends to drive people insane, and ultimately, out of the business altogether. It is the notorious last stop for many staffers, as once you've sat in The Big Chair, your pariah status is usually locked in." Christopher Priest
I could swear Marvel's paper quality took another dip recently, but my LCS's guy said I was crazy! Lol. My last couple new trades have felt thinner than usual, and the covers have that super annoying curl to them. Don't get me started on the tissue paper the monthly single covers have been printed on...
Starting my yearly great Avengers re-read. Started with Gru’s first issue of Cap, and finishing the Skrull/Andromeda storyline now. I forget how it felt to have an Avengers line that was pure fire.
As Marvel events go, Empyre was pretty solid and tight a story, and it didn't treat the characters badly or made them too OOC...or had them just fight each other.
I suspect the idea that Marvel is working with is that Hickman's Hyperion died in battle against the Chitauri waves during Secret Empire. Has he appeared anywhere else since then?
The problem with Hyperion (or any of the Squadron Supreme members for that matter) is that since there are many versions of them and they all come from alternate realities/timelines, Marvel sees them as disposable.
Marvel Comics will always gravitate towards the 'current' version of Hyperion, which right now is the Mephisto simulacrum Hyperion introduced by Jason Aaron.
When Hickman was running Avengers, his Hyperion was pushed as The Hyperion. Now that Aaron is running Avengers, his Hyperion is being pushed as The Hyperion.
Once Aaron's run is over (in a couple of years), they'll downsize his Mephisto-Hyperion and another writer will introduced their own Hyperion, which will be pushed as The Hyperion.
I suspect that this writer will be Kieron Gillen - there is a certain 'Excluded H' locked up in the Exclusion in his Eternals run that needs to pay off at some point down the line.
