I had a few ideas of a Synch-led Team

Team: The Astonishing X-Men
with his team of X-Men working non-stop, Cyclops decides that a second squad is needed. In a surprise move, he elects Everett to lead this team!

Roster

Synch (Everett Thomas): Everett is in a odd headspace; both young and old at once, and trying to re-adjust to a world that has moved on without him twice. But he remains level headed and confident as ever, and up to the task of leadership.

Penance (Monet St. Croix): Monet accepts the invitation "for old times sake", she has grown into a different person over the years, but so has Everett. She and Everett would fight side by side (and occasionally butt heads!) while rebuilding their friendship.

Wolverine (Laura Kinney): Laura accepts the invitation, having a good working relationship with Everett, and having a wait-and-see attitude about any potential romantic relationship. This relationship (and a general oil and water personality chemistry) will cause some friction with Monet.

Prodigy (David Alleyne): Recommended by Cyclops. David comes to the team as the ops/intelligence specialist. His abilities as a Psychomimetic compliment Everett's own abilities extremely well and I see them becoming fast friends.

Scanner (Sarah Ryall): Recommended by Jean Grey. Recently re-empowered and ready to help the cause, Scanner would effectively be the team "rookie". While considered soft by the standards of the other Acolytes, she would still carry some of that radical edge. Has suffered losing her abilities post M-Day and can relate to Prodigy over the experience.

Thunderbird (John Proudstar): Recommended by Jean Grey. Known as a hothead with zero BS tolerance, John would be the team powerhouse. Relates to Synch as they are both men living in a world that has moved on without them.

Hellion (Julian Keller): Recommended by Cyclops (by way of Emma Frost). I feel every team dynamic needs a trouble maker/wild card. Brash and powerful, Julian would take that position. His unresolved feelings for Laura would add spice to Synch-Penance-Wolverine relationship stew. I also think the privileged white kid and native guy with a tough upbringing could develop an unlikely friendship.

Villains

Moses Magnum: I would promote Moses Magnum as a potent treat and good first test for the new team. Magnum, a notorious arms dealer) has been using Sublime technology to create mercenary super-soldiers, and the X-Men need to put a stop to it.

The Corporation: Using a name from a super-villain group that hasn't been used in decades, this new group would be a cabal of wealthy, corporate villsins that look to profit from the eventual war between humans and mutants. the Group would include Monica Rapuccinni (as the new CEO of Roxxon Energy), Oubliette Midas (aka Exterminatrix), Ezekiel Stane, Maxine Danger (Beyond Corporation), and maybe a few others.

New Upstarts: The Gamemaster is once again holding a winner take all competition. The group will include a returning Sienna Blaze, Kenji Ueda (Zero, formerly of Generation Hope), Sunset Bain (aka Madame Menace, now a rogue AI), Mr.X (elite killer and telepath), KIA (someone new is wearing the identity, and wielding the enormously powerful Tactigon), and a few others.

Well, first of all, I love that you chose this name. It hadn't occurred to me, but since it's not currently in use, the very astonishing Synch should definitely have it for his team book.

What's funny is that I've always thought of Penance and X-23 as rivals, just 'cos they're both clawed mutants and Penance came first, but Laura's gotten more attention in the X-Books. Now that M has taken on that codename and powerset, Synch really could be in the most dangerous love triangle ever.

I like that you include Prodigy, 'cos he's always kind of reminded me of a younger generation Synch.

Hellion (Julian Keller): Recommended by Cyclops (by way of Emma Frost). I feel every team dynamic needs a trouble maker/wild card. Brash and powerful, Julian would take that position. His unresolved feelings for Laura would add spice to Synch-Penance-Wolverine relationship stew. Haha, yeah, maybe he could finally resolve those feelings in this book.

The Corporation would be a good villain group to have in the book, 'cos Monet's X-Corp connection could make her the perfect person to interact with all those amoral CEOs. Fuyumi Fujikawa of Fujikawa Industries would easily fit into that group -- she's kidnapped mutants to manufacture MGH in the past.

Loving the breakdowns! Everett does represent what a future leader should look like. The triumvirate of professor X, Scott and Magneto is so stale. No way do I believe they are the only strong leaders capable of doing great things for the mutant cause. Everett has the benefit of tutelage of said leaders and time/experience of over 100 some odd years fighting and strategizing. This guy has Wolverine levels of battle readiness. It would be a shame to ignore this, but due to status quo mentality thats exactly what I expect at some point. We need to see more cross conversation and usage with other writers. We need to hear about a better role in the up coming big events. All that being said, team sounds great I was thinking about one more energy manipulator. Moses Magnum is ...chef's kiss perfect! That concept is something I thought would be cool in Black Panther too.

One would think that he would want a little pay back for what happened to Laura and Darwin in CoTV. They surely made his death kind of personal.

I'm not sure if you mean powerhouse on the character popularity or mutant power level.

Leech (not popular)
-Put him in the Captain Krakoia suit
-Dampen/Remove powers of mutant and non mutant abilities. Don't know if that includes magic.


Iceman (popularish)
-Omega level temperature control
-But with Synch around it would be another nail in Robert coffin, showing someone else is more adapt using his powers.

I just feel that the generation of Academy of X, got shorted. Because of House of M, Utopia and Messiah. The stories kind of removed them. Especially Surge growing leadership and Dust being turn to glass or crystal.

Synch using Dust abilities could be a sandstorm or Dune level proportions.

If we are doing a Sych led team then I am going to have to blast my dream team again. It would be a team put together by Emma.

Synch-Even keel as the lead.
Catseye-To keep everyone honest and and genius of the team.
Shinobi-there to be redeemed and is also in a bromance with maggott.
Miguela Torres-2nd in charge. Appointed by herself (Dwight Shroot). Being a leader of a gang, she has her own ways of how to accomplish goals that might not always sit well with the rest.
Maggott-Muscle and comic relief.
Negasonic-Telepathic powerhouse and little looney and dark.
Vincente-Latino homie and right hand to Miguela.

I love what is in my head with this team!! Would love to see this happen.

Synch should probably start a self-help group for X-Men traumatized by being time-displaced for several years...Jean, Scott, Anole, Rachel,...there are so many, who could use some counseling.

None of those characters especially Jean come across traumatized by being time displaced. Maybe Rachel did early on but she's long since resolved that

If you had said Bishop, I would have said absolutely yes! He makes better sense.
