I think this is a good summation MJ's character journey and why she's stuck around .

Also kind of sums up to me why her "look" - the red hair, the style, the personality, etc. - is so important.

Wells may want to do a reconciliation type story because Spencer skipped that entirely and got them back together in one page with no drama. After 10 years of them being split post-OMD Marvel may feel a story about their reconciliation is due as we have not seen one since JMS and that turned out to be very popular and well received with readers. The only way to tell that type of story was to once again break them up.

The flaw of course is that JMS felt earned due to the fact he was building off what came before he also didn't try to troll the readers as well. It was a very grown up and well executed reconciliation.

There was that talk they had after sex at the start of Issue 2 of Spencer's run, where MJ said she still loved him and hadn't ever stopped.

Best to just think of 616 MJ as a variant 'till she starts acting like the one we like again. MC2 MJ is the real one to me. All the history, plus none of what came with the Mackie reboot. I miss out on JMS but it's a small potatoes sacrifice to get the awesome MJ I remember growing up on.
